I have to agree with Lindsey on the whole gossip vs. art thing. The way i see it is such: All of Shawn's songs are about the emotional turmoil of someone (that someone being herself, someone she knows, or someone she made up). And that's part of why I love her music: because I (like most of the human race) love to eavesdrop on other people's problems. However, the reason I prefer Shawn to the Jerry Springer Show is the way she conveys these issues: her incredibly poetic lyrics. So that's why I'm on this list instead of watching daytime television. I have to keep reminding myself of that sometimes, 'cause I do love the "insider" feeling of knowing about someone's private life, but I feel like there are venues for that-- like books and music and movies and friends-- that don't infringe upon real people's lives. Oh yeah, and I also have to agree with Lindsey on the correct spelling of "National Enquirer". --Anna Petersons On Fri, 19 Nov 1999, Lindsey Claypool wrote: > I think it is in kind of > poor taste to discuss whether or not she's breaking up with her husband and > having an affair with Jackson Browne...I just don't see how it's our > business in any way, shape or form. John, I read ya on the sleep deprived bit! Nah, Jenn doesn't deserve to be chastised immensely; I just kinda think that speculation about who our fave singer is sleeping with is a bit on the rude side. And I know that Jenn wasn't necessarily saying that...what I'm really trying to say is that I don't think we should discuss that kind of thing on this list. It is just my opinion, but I do know the list is managed by Mr. Ron Fierstein, & so therefore what we say could get back to Shawn. It seems to me that she would probably be pretty uncomfortable with us talking about this. I mean, if I was having a baby I wouldn't mind people talking about that. But I wouldn't want people speculating about the state of my marraige. So what I guess I'm saying is that I feel it's a bit disrespectful, that's all. I dont mean to flame anyone, least of all you, cuz I know you're a cool guy!
