Presented by Richard Allinson. Either the BBC recorded Shawn the last time she was here or it's a repeat of a few years ago. I didn't hear the broadcast but I was there - highlights included Shawn doing Barbara Streisand and Steuart doing Neil Diamond. I think (but am not sure) that this was the first time I heard "Ebony & Ivory" being worked into Polaroids. Also - below is the latest from Lucy Kaplansky - Kay - She's playing over here in December. Hi everyone and welcome to all the new folks on this mailing list! I've been incredibly busy in the last few weeks and I've been having a blast, but it's nice to be home for a couple of days. I've been all over the Midwest and New England and I'm happy to say that a number of the shows have been sell-outs. The thing is that in the last few months more and more people have been coming to the shows and lots more already know my songs when they come, and for the first time since I came back to music it feels like I'm really finding an audience. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful. Thanks, you guys, for making all this possible and for letting me know you feel connected to my music in some way. I had a great time singing with Jennifer Kimball, who sat in with me in Cambridge and in New York City. She truly sings like an angel. Also did a couple of shows with Carrie Newcomer, who was teriffic and very fun to work with. And Jon Herington was awesome on guitar at my shows in Minneapolis and New York City. Having him is like having a whole band! Also, a surprise guest showed up at the Bottom Line in New York City: Robin Batteau, who wrote "Guinevere," sat in and played fiddle and sang a third harmony part on his song (Jennifer sang the other part) and it was one of the most magical musical moments I've ever had on stage. For fans of my dad, big news: he and I will both be performing on the nationally broadcast radio show "West Coast Live" on 11/13. Seems their regular piano player will be out that day and they've invited my dad to fill in. Needless to say, he's totally thrilled. (He's 82, and this will be his first time ever playing on the radio!) I don't know yet if we'll be asked to do something together. That would certainly be a trip! Cry Cry Cry is winding down, and we have one last show scheduled for January 2 in Boston at Sanders Theater. It'll be kind of a finale show and should be very fun but also sad. I'm really going to miss singing with Dar and Richard. Speaking of Richard, Dar and I sang on his new album a couple of weeks ago, and the whole thing sounds terrific. It should be out in February. I'll be returning to England, Scotland and Ireland in December (looks like 12/8 through 12/20) and I'll have the exact dates within the next couple of weeks. As far as I know I'm scheduled to go to Sheffield, London, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Belfast, Dublin and more. I'm also planning to take a vacation in Ireland for a few days around Christmas. I'm looking forward to the Guinness in a big way; it's just better over there. I'm about to head out to the west coast and Colorado for a bunch of shows. I'm expecting my dad to sit in with me at at least some of the California shows. And the great Nina Gerber will be playing guitar with me for most of the California shows as well! Also, I'll be returning to Philadelphia on 11/27 and Jon Herington, that phenomenal guitar player from "Ten Year Night" will be playing with me that night. So here's where I'll be in the next few weeks: 11/10 Cafe Tomo, Arcata, CA (707) 822-4100 11/11 Palms Playhouse, Davis CA (530) 756-9901 w/Nina Gerber 11/12 Freight and Salvage, Berkeley, CA (510) 548-1761 w/Nina Gerber 11/13 Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Santa Cruz, CA (831) 429-7663 w/Nina Gerber, co-bill with Eddie from Ohio 11/14 Lake Sonoma House Concerts, Geyserville, CA (707) 542-7143 w/Nina Gerber (I believe this show is sold out.) 11/18 Diamond Circle Theater, Durango, CO (970) 247-8060 11/19 San Juan Center for the Arts, Ridgway, CO (970) 626-4059 11/20 Tuft Theater at Swallow Hill, Denver, CO (303) 777-1003 11/27 The Tin Angel, Philadelphia, PA (215) 928-0770 w/Jon Herington on guitar 11/28 The Towne Crier, Pawling, NY (914) 12/1 Cafe Carpe, Fort Atkinson, WI (920) 563-9391 12/2 CSPS, Cedar Rapids, IA (319) 364-1580 12/3 The Pump House, La Crosse, WI (608) 785-1434 12/4 Mabel Tainer Theater, Menomonie, WI (715) 235-0001 12/8-12/20 England, Scotland and Ireland By the way, a number of people have asked me when I'll be going back to Texas, and it looks like April or May. A reminder: I have a web site at http://www.folkartists.com/kaplansky/ where you can get complete tour info as well as see never before seen photos (there's a bunch of new ones on there, including one of me and my mom). That's it for now. Thanks again for all the emails! Love, Lucy Kay or anyone ! (no offence Kay) - could you let me know if you get this via smoe.org - It's either very quiet or I'm getting very few postings. Last one was from cindy re P Mulvey concert (received 30/10/99 or to you BH 10/30/99 :) ) and before that Lindsey on the 29th. May have a spare ticket for Jane Siberry at The Borderline on Monday (I think) if anyone around London is interested. Let me know and I'll start searching for them - the flat (apartment) is a mess at the moment. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
