There is this on lyric in Satin Sheets <...> Such serendipity! I just about to post a recommendation to you all regarding Willis Alan Ramsey, the guy who wrote that song. The bottom line is that for years now I have been searching in vain to find a CD version of his one and only album, a true classic from 1972. There was a brief CD issue of it a while back but I didn't act quickly enough. Well, now it's back out and you, my fellow Shawnophiles, should go out and get one while you can! (Just in time too! My vinyl album is getting a little worn out.) The name of the CD is Willis Alan Ramsey, distributed by Koch Entertainment; but any good indie record will probably carry it, since it's such a famous recording. Lyle Lovett is calling it "the best record ever made," or words to that effect -- an exaggeration for sure, for maybe not for him. It's influence on him and many others is certainly clear. Indeed, anyone associated with the Austin music scene in the early '70s would have been greatly influenced by this album, originally put out on Shelter Records with considerable support from Leon Russell and J. J. Cale. ("Anyone" includes our Shawn, of course, which is why she covered Satin Sheets.) Tell you what, if you buy it and don't like it, I'll buy it back from you - -- how's that for a serious recommendation? Seriously. Listen especially to my one of my all-time favorite love songs by any artist: "Angel Eyes." Such a great song! A warning: for those of you who are old enough to have been listening to music in the '70s and '80s, try not to be freaked out when you hear "Muskrat Candlelight." It's another beautiful love song, with just Willis Alan and Leon playing. Unfortunately it was later butchered by the Captain and Tenille. This is the REAL version. Why only one album from such an conspicuously talented singer-songwriter, a guy who had the entire world at his feet after this album came out? The legend has it that he so despised the process of making the album that he vowed never to make another. So far, he's kept his word. Personally, I suspect his own hard-to-work-with perfectionism was what made the process so difficult, but it's not like I have any inside poop. Just guessing. He still plays music, btw. Catch him if you can. FYI, the new liner notes list six people in the "special thanks" section, including...you guessed it... Shawn Colvin. - -Meri, experimenting with double spaces between paragraphs since my damn server keeps deleting some of them. This little add-on, for example, should consist of four short lines to the right of my name.
