As for my personal opinion, I find that unlike a lot of Shawn songs, this one really requires the musical accompaniment (for me, at least). Until the last verse, there's not a lot of lyrical substance, but when put together with the dark music, it really creates an effective mood... My basic understanding of the song is that everything she's pointing out in the lyrics is a delusion...I'm not really sure on it all, though. This one has always kinda confused me. I vaguely remember reading that she got the title from a book on Buddhism...can anyone elaborate on that more? Anyone who knows Buddhism, and perhaps knows more about the term? I dunno, maybe I'm making it into more than it is. I do know that it's a damn bleak song, whatever the deeper meanings may or may not be! Depresses the hell out of me. What do you all think? :) ~lindsey - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I've been listening to Shawn's music only for the past two years or so, but am totally taken. The lyrics and phrasing seem to speak directly to the listener. The only concert I've been able to see so far was last month when Shawn appeared at Artscape, which is a big "celebration of the arts" festival held yearly here in Baltimore. She opened with Steady On and played others from Cover Girl, Fat City and A Few Small Repairs. After the show she was kind enough to stop for a few minutes and speak to a small group of us who were near the stage. I thought this showed a lot of class - I mean she played for an hour in 100+ heat and then took the time to talk to fans; not many would bother to do this. Thanks for listening, Chris - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. It is a story about 2 track running Shawn COlvin fans and one of them always listens to a Shawn tape she made before a meet. Once the 2 peoples were in a hotel before a meet and the tape listening one couldn't find her tape and she/he kept saying "My tape! My tape!" and the other one picked up a roll of athletic tape that was on the table. And the other one said "No, my Shawn Colvin tape!" I think I either dreamt it, read it on Shawn Petries site, or read it in the list archives. If I did read it in the archives and someone kept it, would they mind re-posting it? ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it.
