It cheered me up. Mimi wrote: > I think its interesting how you heard "Sunny" and became > a Shawn fan, and yet didnt buy AFSR, but decided to get > something else instead. Oh, but I did buy the Sunny single. That was my first record of Shawn's. I usually avoid singles (I'm far from a completist), but in this case it seemed to be a good choice. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't have spent that much money; if I did like it, the live songs on the single would justify not just going for the album. Rob wrote: > So which was the first purchase and why? Having bought the single, I found some reviews on the web. One of them said that "Live '88" was her best album, so I bought that one. I tend to prefer live albums. I've bought the others in chronological order (for no particular reason). > Surely it can't be an availability issue? No. You'll be happy to find out that even here in Sweden, most of Shawn's albums have had domestic releases. The two that have not ("Fat City" and "Live '88") are imported by the larger stores. Mimi also wrote: > "Set the Prairie on Fire" I LOVE that song too. Shawn's words are really graphic in this one. Every line is just incredible. Her vocals are more intricate than usual as well. It's the one song where I can't sing along no matter how hard I try. The comments about maturing helped me to recall that "mature" is a good word to describe Shawn's music. A title like "Diamond In the Rough" alone is enough to show you that her music isn't about parties or having a crush on your neighbor. That's what got me listening I guess.
