Hi there, I was sitting here thinking about how scarce the messages from the list are at times, and realized that I haven't exactly been helping. I subscribed about two months ago, but this is my first post and I thought I'd tell you a couple of lines about myself. I'm Thomas, obviously, and I've been listening to Shawn for only nine or ten months. I'm Swedish, and since "Sunny Came Home" is the only song of Shawn's that has gotten radio airplay, this was the one that caught my attention. Since then, I've been (slowly) working my way through her albums. I'm up to Cover Girl now, soon planning to buy AFSR. What I like most about Shawn is her lyrics. She always keeps a distance to whatever subject she writes about, so that we get a fair view. And there are great lines in almost all of her songs. Some of my favorite songs are "Something to Believe In", "Set the Prairie On Fire" and "Another Long One". I hope that I'll be able to add something to the list... "Set the Prairie on Fire" I LOVE that song too. The past year or so that song has been my #1 favorite Shawn song. There is something dark, fearful, longing, sensual and hypnotic about it, that makes me listen to it over and over again. I think its interesting how you heard "Sunny" and became a Shawn fan, and yet didnt buy AFSR, but decided to get something else instead. Methinks perhaps that'd make a good song of the week one of these days :) Of course, when I first heard that song I was pretty young (being a young'un now, I was only twelve or thirteen when I first heard Fat City). I was riding home on the schoolbus, listening oh-so-innocently to Shawn on my walkman, when STPOF came on. I couldn't really make out the words, so I casually turned up the volume & read the lyrics sheet. I must say, my little pre-adolescent self was rather bashful to read about such things as "go down the water, naked and slow." It was awhile before I could fully appreciate it. Thankfully, I matured, and realized what an awesome song it is :) I do wish Shawn would play it live more often-- I've never seen her do it, and it doesn't seem like it's in her set list often. ~lindsey btw, welcome to the list, Thomas!! - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Yeah Thomas, methinks lots of us would be very interested as to how you skipped AFSR and went with an older one. Surely it can't be an availability issue? So which was the first purchase and why? -Rob (PS: Hey Mimi.. tell our fearless BigHaired leader that we Shawnophiles long for a post!) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
