It's a good line-up but I wondered if anyone had any special recommendations because I don't know many of the names in the acoustic tent for instance Cheers Adam - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. 'all the other kids are sad again and a legend's not a legend til it ends' is a reference to the hoopla after his suicide. Most of the song is about Courtney Love or people like her. I can't remember if I worked this out myself or heard it. I have a feeling she might have said something at Glastonbury (in the UK) two years ago- or I might be imagining it. Anyway it's a great song about a certain type of fame- where the person eschews the concept of fame but is desperate for it. What I would like to know is the fade out -'I could almost live without you but not quite.....not quite...' supposed to be conciliatory or is she being VERY ironic? Anyway- that's my contribution. Can I also quickly hark back to a argument a few years ago on this list where some members were berating the UK list members for inflicting the Spice Girls on the US. I would like to point out that N-Sync and Sixpence None the Bloody Richer are in our charts at the moment- so in my book we're about even- ;-) Take care Adam __________________ Adam Legge adaml@dircon.co.uk Phone 0191-230-0994 Fax 0191-230-0995 Mobile 0370-756509 - -----Original Message----- From: owner-small-repairs@smoe.org [mailto:owner-small-repairs@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Amber Sent: 20 June 1999 03:12 To: Fred G.; small-repairs@smoe.org Subject: Re: [s-r] sotw-- new thing now "Fred G." wrote: > Christian Comes wrote: > > > > I have a question about the sotw: when shawn talks(sings) about > > 'don't you love the leader of the band... > > '...but a legend is not a legent 'till it ends' > > > > is that about Mr Neil Finn and Crowded House (her > > many-times-so-called fave band) or i'm just making up? > > I always figured that was a reference to John Leventhal. > > Fred G. aw, now i'm *really* confused! i never thought about it before. if it were a reference to John, then how does she mean it? a lowly seventeen-year-old in the scheme of things, Amber - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Anyway, I have a few questions that I've been pondering of late, and wondered if anybody could shed any light on them: 1. When Shawn did her 10 of the Best for VH1, she also recorded a 10 of the worst. Does anybody know how this came about? Perhaps it's only VH1 Europe, but I've never seen any other artist do a 10 of the worst ( or perhaps it was because she genially slated one of her own videos - Every Little Thing...) 2. Apart from any self or co-production work on her own stuff, or Lucy Kaplansky's The Tide, has Shawn ever produced anybody else's work? 3. Shawn has appeared on quite a number of soundtracks. Does anybody know whether there is any particular reason for this - presumably being on Columbia Records has something to do with it? A MCC/Shawn Duets album would be wonderful if it ever came about. Given they are both now with AGF, perhaps more collaborations in the future are a distinct possibility? Welcoming any responses, and thrilled to find a Shawn list, Kay - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I do remember that year that every magazine you picked up at Tory on the cover. So maybe she was the genesis of the song and we're right anyway. susan mailto:susankrauss@earthlink.net - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Shawn said at both of her Montalvo shows that Tori (and OJ Simpson) were the subject of 'I Want It Back', not New Thing Now. When I first heard New Thing Now, I thought it was autobiographical. I then heard or read that Shawn had said that it was indeed about Kurt and Courtney, and I know that Mary Lou Lord covers it in part due to the Courtney connection, since there is/was bad blood between them regarding Kurt. BTW, the second show of Shawn's at Villa Montalvo was two songs shorter than the first, due to the cold, drizzly conditions, and Shawn and Steuart were in the wrong key for 84,000 Different Delusions, so they skipped that and Suicide Alley. The only other difference was the encore, in which she did a striking solo performance of 'Kathy's Song' instead of Jimmy Webb's 'If These Walls Could Only Talk'. Chapin's two shows there a week later had much better weather... - -john - --- Susan Krauss wrote: > While I always thought "New Thing Now" was about > Courtney Love & Kurt Cobain, Shawn has said recently > that she was referring to Tori Spelling.
