Ummmm..... did i miss a post from Sarah? When did she say that? All I could find was this harmless, amusing and true comment in response to Meri's pranksterly Ron-pestering post.... > Scary thing is, I lived > in Nashville for 5 years, and there are actually people who do those sorts of > things! Seems like a little eensy bit of a logical leap between those two statements there. Sooooo... what's your prob exactly KuvrGirl? I ask purely for information.... and since you asked, I have it from reliable sources that Sarah is also an accomplished writer and musician. I'm sure she'll be pleased that you were interested enough in her talents to enquire. What's more, she now qualifies for the worthy moniker of SarahWhoever, joining me, KatWhatever in the semi-anonymous name game.... now all we need is a Wherever, However and Whyever and we can join Fred Funksheister's Coney Island Circus Sideshow!! Wooohoooo!!! KatWhatever :) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I'm stoking the flames here, guys! Here is my favorite verse from that Robbie Fulks novelty song, "Fuck This Town" off his South Mouth CD. In plain black & white it doesn't come off as hilarious as when he sings it in an upbeat western swing, but in any case you should get some sense of why KuvrGirl10 -- if that really is her name! -- finds it offensive: . "Hey this ain't country-western! It's just soft-rock feminist crap! And I thought they'd hit rock bottom Back in the days of Ronnie Milsap Now they can't stop the flood of assholes There ain't a big enough ASCAP" . Hee hee. I love that last line. But obviously the point of the song is to offend the Nashille establishment -- the next verse is even worse! -- so I guess KuvrGirl10's response is fitting. Except the part about Sarah, obviously. . Fulks' "Let's Kill Saturday Night" CD is a whole different animal, btw. More crossover than his previous roots/alt-country CDs. You may remember I described it a while back as "Freedy Johnston meets Steve Earle." If you like either of those guys, buy it now! You'll thank me. And if you live near Chicago, go see him perform. . - -Meri- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. But when it comes to the music bidnez, well to quote Robbie Fulks F*** this Town, or to quote Dale Watson, "Help me Merle I'm breaking out in a Nashville rash." Of course, many in the music bidnez elsewhere are really no different (Hell Shawn was really lucky that Sony-Columbia stayed with her for so long). The fact is that Hot Country is too often watered down '70s rock (again quoting Dale Watson), with a couple of exceptions like George Straight and Vince Gill. Does anybody think that George Jones could become a star in Hot Country, hell no, he ain't good looking enough and forget that hair of his. What I want to know is in order to get played on Hot Country, is it really true that you have to be signed to the Elaine Ford Modeling Agency also? Just another person breaking out in a Nashville Rash. In a message dated 4/23/99 8:42:02 PM Eastern Daylight Time, KuvrGirl10@aol.com spat: <> hmm.. i've never heard of ya. <> my, my, my. I'm very happy that you have "made it" and equally glad for you that you indeed have "what it takes", but give me a break. Shawn Colvin stuck it out in New York for over 13 years before she broke through, and i'll bet she had some things to say about people with that kind of attitude. Thank God she DIDN'T leave town. << As for Sarah, whoever she is, is apparently so naive to think Nashville is the only city songwriters go to pitch their songs. >> KuvrGirl10, whoever YOU are, methinks that you have attacked Sarah in a most unfair way, and i must come to her defense. I have no idea who you are, (i am the first to admit that i, myself, am nobody) and you may have more talent in your little finger than i have in my entire 5'1" frame, INCLUDING the cubical volume that my hair displaces, but i can't see where you derived that Sarah is naive. I may not be the foremost authority in who is talented and who is not, but i certainly don't go around insulting people that i have never met, and i CAN say that having heard Sarah and her husband Dave, they are, without a doubt, great musicians and songwriters. I can assure you that they are FAR from naive. Just a word of advice, it's probably not a good practice to insult people you have not met, or heard, especially when there is no basis for your insult. <> your modesty is astounding. ~jean aka bH, who probably should not have responded to this post, seeings how i am grouchy beyond belief, but it is the first post in which every sentence has actually made me angry, and i could not contain myself. I apologize if i have made a scene, acted like a child, or if i have misread the tone in which KuvrGirl10 spake. I wish you no harm, KuvrGirl; your post just pissed me off. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
