I don't have AT&T, so I doubt if one would serendipitously appear in my mailbox. Nat King Cole is one of my all-time favorites from the ballads and big band era, and "But Beautiful" is one of my favorites of the zillions of songs he performed. I think Browne, Raitt, Lindley and Hornsby have fans in age groups all over the map (as does Shawn), but I don't think one could reasonably argue that their core audience is primarily the 16-38 set which is where most would view Shawn's. I meant absolutely no disrespect to these fabulous artists who (with possibly a Lindley exception) are a staple in my musical library nor to the obvious influence they have had on Shawn. But when others mention they these artists had recent "chart topping albums" and could fill "larger venues than Shawn" I say hmmm.. All but I believe Lindley played some of the smaller venues in Portland in the past year and none was a sell out except Raitt. I guess I'm just feeling selfish in that when I see the Portland Shawn show in September, like Lindsey.. I want to see Shawn. Maybe with Lucinda Williams or MCC or Neil Finn, but a sing-along with David Lindley? Not really. I'd still prefer to see just Shawn, unless I knew there was gonna be another chance soon to see her solo. I mean, it'll have been two whole years since I've seen her in concert once Bumbershoot roles around! I hope that, if she's planning on playing this date with Bonnie, Jackson et al, she'll be playing another gig with just herself (and maybe a band, of course) soon afterwards. I don't know... i'm a little torn in passing judgement, as i'm sure it'd be a *very* cool thing for Shawn to do. I mean, if I were every to be a musician at about Shawn's level (keep dreaming), I'd be thrilled out of my little skull if I was invited to play with all these musicians I admired so much. And it would be neat to see... just as long as I could see Shawn alone too :) How's this for an idea-- reunite her with Lucy Kaplansky, and let them finally have their duo. They do sound wonderful together :) - -Lindsey oh, and one final point & then I *promise* to shut up-- does this supergroup billing mean that tickets are going to be very expensive? The first time I saw Shawn at the Mean Fiddler in London, T Bone Wolk was playing with her. He played a mean accordian and Shawn told a story about a concert she played with (amongst others) Bonnie Raitt. After hearing T Bone play the accordian at that gig, Bonnie asked T Bone if he was married. He said yes and asked why. She replied that any woman married to a guy whose fingers moved so fast had to be a very fortunate person. (Actual language changed for the more sensitive on the list.) PS Acknowledged that Shawn has family commitments now, but has she given up on The UK because of this or because of the lack of support from certain parties (Here we go again BH - How are You????) over this side of the pond. Come back Shawn and play The Jazz Cafe or The Borderline NOT The Empire. Emmylou did 3 nights in a row at The Jazz Cafe and with the exception of Shawn's gig, it was the best I've ever seen. (Rufus Wainwright was pretty hot too .....oh ....and Michael McDonald) PPS You know the Shawn story about her and Lyle Lovett talking about never writing a song about their kids. I think I know the song that sparked that conversation. It's on The Columbia Records Radio Hour Vol. 1 Figure out for yourselves !!!!
