She's on quite a few Mary-Chapin Carpenter CDs, as well as Bruce Hornsby's Night On The Town. She produced Lucy Kaplansky's The Tide, and supplies vocals too. All of whom (and Suzanne Vega too) have reciprocated in one way or another on her CDs. One that I haven't seen mentioned on this topic in the past is "Standing Eight" by Bill Morrissey from 1989 on Philo/Rounder. She sings backup on the songs 'Love Song/New York 1982' and (appropriately) 'She's That Kind of Mystery'. Other notables guest musicians are Patty Larkin, Johnny Cuningham, Suzanne Vega and Cormac McCarthy. As has been pointed out Shawn's done quite a bit of background singing and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention her latest supporting effort on the song "Born for Me" from Paul Westerberg's new album Suicaine Gratifaction. No, really, that's what its called. "Born for Me" is a really good song; Paul knows that a love song needs just the right balance of sweetness and desperation. Replacement fans will be disappointed but I'm really enjoying this album. It's a good album Even without Shawn's backup Go buy it now, please!
