It would be the same as referring to Fat City as Another Round of Blues. Argh. I can't believe I did that...sorry. I know that name's been thrown around on here quite a bit. I've never been, but one of my best friends has gone, and says it's great. :) Hope this helps SOMEONE out there!! You can actually hear Shawn say the word cadence in the intro to Polaroids found on the Columbia Records Radio Hour, Vol.1 disc. The thing I really like about this song (besides the cadence, which is really a hallmark of this tune, due partly to Shawn's percussive guitar work) is that it has a non-standard song structure. It has five verses, no chorus, no bridge. It really has only two root chords altered for variety, but played five times before wrapping with two other simple chords. Most songwriters wouldn't consider this a 'finished' song, I don't imagine... I am really glad Shawn is unconventional enough to have considered it finished and put it out there for us... To me, that very non-structure, that simple bare skeleton of the guitar, the ... dang it, the cadence... well, it's the right word, dammit.... Anyway, it adds momentum and power to the song, lyrically wrapping up the wreckage of another doomed relationship with that wonderful bittersweet dreamscape ending. - -john [glad the St. Patty's Day Earthquake Festival skipped San Francisco this year] - ---Kat McLeod wrote: > > Fred said Shawn said.... > > >"It had a cadence to it that was really infectious, kind of sing-songy and I just spent a lot of time > >getting involved in the rhythm of it and jotting down anything that came into my mind." > > Damn.... so *that's* where I got the word 'cadence' from in my own > description of Polaroids.... and there I thought I was just being really > insightful and poetic and musically intellectual.... rats.
