Finch" Subject: [s-r] NSC: Falcon Ridge and Jessica Weiser Are any Small Repairers going to the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival this year? This lineup was announced on the Dar Williams list and now I am seriously thinking about going. There's a new artist I think lots of you would be interested in hearing. Her name is Jessica Weiser. I know her from the Tara MacLean mailing list (can you tell I'm on *lots* of listservs ;-). I got her (independent) CD about two weeks ago and have had it playing virtually non-stop. You have hear some tidbits on her website http://adam.nettfriends.com/Jess. The CD is available directly from her or through http://www.cdbaby.com. She'll also be playing in Boston and Toronto soon if some of you would like to hear her live. If anybody has any questions about Jessica, feel free to ask! She definitely has that whole 'woman and her guitar' thing going that so many of us love ;-). She influenced by Tara MacLean but I think if you like Shawn, Dar, or Lucy, chances are good you'd probably like Jess' stuff as well. okay back to work! rox ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ rdfinch@mindspring.com http://www.unc.edu/~roxfinch Yeah, I'm crazy, but I get the job done. --Ben Folds Five "Philosophy" - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. But what if your record company held you at knifepoint and made you choose between a rap duet with Ol' Dirty Bastard and a power ballad with Michael Bolton and Mariah Carey? NM: I'd opt for the cyanide tablet. I really would. Luckily, I've got a very thick contract to protect me from horrors like that. Just for saying that I forgive her for cancelling her Aussie tour last year... heheh. kat :) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. This is from http://www.shawncolvin.com/perfsong.htm: What was the writing of "Polaroids" like? It probably took a year, but it was the way I described before. I mean, I got the first verse on the way to therapy - see this transportation thing really helps! But I was on this bus and it just came, "Please no more therapy/Mother take care of me/piece me together with needle and thread," and I just went "whaaa, thank you!" It had a cadence to it that was really infectious, kind of sing-songy and I just spent a lot of time getting involved in the rhythm of it and jotting down anything that came into my mind. And a lot of it was trash and a lot of it was funny, and a lot of it was applicable. Did you really dream the last verse? Yeah I did. I had this dream where this couple wasn't walking a plank off of a ship, but they were walking a plank over a huge excavated hole in the ground. And they were totally in love, it was the sweetest damn feeling, you know. And he walked out first and she took a polaroid, then she walked out and he took a polaroid as she held up this flash card type of thing that said "Valentine." The good will between these people must have been something that I was striving for because I had had relationships with a lot of ill-will, (laughs) which just seems so wrong, but it was in my life.
