Nice to see "Ricochet In Time" get a little action. One of my faves and essentially underplayed until now. Also cool to see Shawn in such talented company on a quality project. Have a great weekend, -Rob Forwarded Message: - ------------------------------------------------------------- VIETNAM LONG TIME COMING (Soundtrack) Columbia Records is proud to announce the release of Vietnam Long Time Coming, the soundtrack album featuring music from, and inspired by, the powerful award-winning documentary which is scheduled to be broadcast on NBC on April 17. Vietnam Long Time Coming is due in stores on February 9. Track listings on Vietnam Long Time Coming include "Shut Out The Light" (Bruce Springsteen), "String Of Pearls" (Soul Asylum), "Ricochet In Time" (Shawn Colvin), "Learn To Fly" (Richie Havens) and "I Hear A Call" (Emmylou Harris). The album also showcases six Ben Sidran compositions: "Bamboo," "Going Home," "A Different Drummer," "43 Miles," "Swami Daddy-O," and "The Last Run." Directed by Jerry Blumenthal, Peter Gilbert, and Gordon Quinn (the creative team behind "Hoop Dreams"), "Vietnam Long Time Coming" chronicles an extraordinary cycling event called The Vietnam Challenge, a historic three-day event which took place in January 1998. The Vietnam Challenge was neither a race nor a competition, but rather a chance for disabled and able-bodied veterans to test their limits in a 1200 mile ride from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. The event was designed to let U.S. and Vietnamese participants heal emotional wounds and bring a sense of closure to a war that divided America and scarred millions of people physically and emotionally. The inspiring story of these veterans demonstrates the unifying power of sports and stands as a symbol of global goodwill and reconciliation. Vietnam Long Time Coming is a musical document of the important legacy of this worldwide humanitarian event. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ http://www.shawncolvin.com/ - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Cry Cry Cry: Cry Cry Cry This was my pick of the year. The incredible combination of Lucy Kaplansky, Dar Williams and Richard Shindell is just flat out wonderful. See them live if you get the chance, they nail all the harmonies throughout, and the songs those chose for this project and the arrangements are truly amazing stuff. Jonatha Brooke: 10cent Wings Jonatha Brooke: Live Another must-see live performer. She is a very special, very warm and funny singer-songwriter, who writes some devastating stuff (Because I Told You So), she deserves more attention and exposure than she is currently receiving. Julie Miller: Blue Pony By Way of Sorrow is a standout on this outstanding disc. Barbara Kessler: Notion Excellent throughout, the title song and 'The Date' are great songs. Susan Werner: Time Between Trains Once again, great live. Very insightful lyrics, great tunes, excellent guitarist. Kristen Hall: Be Careful What You Wish For I call this one 'the wallower'. Kristen *knows* what being down is, and she'll tell you all about it. Neil Finn: Try Whistling This The smartest pop tunesmith out there. I was privileged to see him perform two separate times in Austin last year, both times Shawn sang with him... what else could you ask for? Bruce Cockburn: The Charity of Night Bruce crafts songs and lyrics that take you to places you've never been, and show you how to look at things from a different perspective. Lyle Lovett: Step Inside This House All the songs on this double CD are by Texas songwriters, most notably Townes Van Zandt and Walter Hyatt. Train: Train Breakout band from San Francisco, played on many AAA format stations. Counting Crows: Across A Wire-Live In New York I guess you love 'em or hate 'em... This was a staple in my car since it came out. Sheryl Crow: The Globe Sessions Her strongest effort to date, another great CD for the road. The Difficult Kind is my favorite song on this disc. Pat Metheny Group: Imaginary Day This guy, this band is just awesome... Seeing them perform these and many other songs live was an extremely moving experience. Michael Hedges: Oracle Michael left this world too early, this project showed that he still had much to say musically, in a return to his roots as a master of the acoustic guitar, coming to prominence before new age was a tired cliche. - -john == ............................. . .
