[KJWinsor@aol.com] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 21 Jan 99 10:28:29 -0400 From: Meriwether Jones Subject: [s-r] (NSC) Netiqette Having thrown in my vote for us doing more personal sharing, I feel a big ole itch to restate a few universally accepted netiquette pointers for doing so responsibly. Cuz, hey, it's just simple respect and courtesy for others, right? 1) When you do go "off-topic," remember to use NSC (no shawn content) in your subject line. Why? So those who on this list who do *not* want to talk about things other than our dear Shawn can delete your message unopened. Personally I enjoy off-topic conversation, but not using NSC is just plain disrespectful to those here who feel otherwise. 2) Please please purty please , most of us on this list are *terrible* at remembering to edit out the original message to which we are responding. Just hitting "reply" doesn't cut it, my dear friends and fellow Shawnophiles. Especially for those of us (like me!) who get the digest version. If you've never seen the digest, just imagine reading an original and lengthy post, then reading it five times with sparse new comments sandwiched somewhere in between each repeat. Searching for the new comments is the 'net version of "Where's Waldo?"! 3) If you forget one of these fairly minor netiqette practices, you don't need to apologize to the whole list. Everyone forgets every now and then. If we all apologized every time, the list would consist mostly of apologies! On the other hand, most of us do apologize for bigger goof-ups, like Anna's hilarious accidental post the other day. (Such a tease! I still want to know the deep and dark secrets those two were just about to share.) That's it. Please forgive the lecture... P.S. Hey Lori! Long time no talk! How's the Joni list these days? - -Meri- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I thought I'd throw out some of my favorite musicians. I like a lot music I'd call power pop: early REM, the Replacements, Marshall Crenshaw, Lloyd Cole. I've been listenning to the Hat Full of Rain: the Best of Del Amitri a lot recently; their song "Driving with the Brakes On" is my new favorite song. Growing up in Nashville, I also learned to appreciate some country music: Steven Earle, Jason and the Scorchers and I guess Mary Chapin Carpenter and Lucinda Williams fall under that too. There's the whole Canadian Female Art Rock thing too with Sarah McLachlan and Jane Siberry. Speaking of the Replacements, ex-Mats Paul Westerberg has a new album, "Suicaine Gratification", coming out Feb 23 and Shawn helps out on the song "Born for Me." From the sound clips I've heard it seems to be a mellow and melancholic album. Can't hardly wait! It was very traumatic since my room-mate was quite the groupie. You can still get their CDs and those stickers will be around town forever as far as I can tell. Happy Belated New Years! I accidentally sent my reply about favorite musicians just to Spencer (I thought I'd lost my mind when it didn't show up in my Shawn mail folder), so here goes again: Michael Penn Mary Chapin Carpenter (of course, that's probably close to a given for this mailing list, I would think (?) ) Sheryl Crow, Suzanne Vega, Indigo Girls, Ani DiFranco Sarah McLachlan (like her older stuff better though, esp. Touch - it'staking a while for her new stuff to grow on me) Annie Lennox, Eurythmics (just got the album "Be Yourself Tonight" - haven't owned my own copy since high school but still know all the words :-) Sting, Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews Band, Elvis Costello Bela Fleck and the Flecktones Tracy Bonham Kathy ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
