I have to admit it's largely true. With, of course, a few notable exceptions easily distinguished by their appreciation of Shawn's music (and just bopping to "Sunny" doesn't count.) --Anna On Fri, 15 Jan 1999, Lang, Jeff wrote: > 8th graders aren't still kids are they? (Hey, but you knew that, right?) My dear Lindsey, the reason your age is a little surprising is that you write with a maturity that some of us don't associate with your age group. That's my long winded way of saying: damn girl, you don't sound like no teeny bopper! This is perhaps the most refreshing aspect of listservs and the internet, no? We interact without the usual audio-visual clues that trigger our careful built preconconceived notions. Shy people don't necessarily seem afraid to share their thoughts. Young people don't necessarily seem immature. Good-looking people don't necessarily seem more attractive. Black folk don't necessarily seem more soulful [or whatever your stereotype for them might be.] That's why I prefer that, at least initially, new members don't give out their age and whatnot. I like getting to know you all by your contributions first, and then later being surprised by your circumstances. For the record, my sweet wife is named Bonnie (age 49) and we have rambunctious fraternal twin boys named Danny and Will (aged almost 7 and almost 7, respectively.) For what it's worth, I would be happy to participate a lot more on this list if it were considered ok to continue this rabid outbreak of small talking -- *and* we all made a more conscious effort to do the following: 1) remember to use the No Shawn Content (NSC) tag in our subject heading when appropriate, out of courtesy to those who are only here for Shawn info; and 2) be careful to not just hit "reply" and thereby quote the entire prior message within our posts. (Delete the prior message or start your postg with a small excerpt that clarifies what you are responding to.) If we all followed those two basic courtesies, I would delighted to share the oh so exciting nuances of my (and your all's) life and times till the proverbial cows came home! - -Meri, in Washington, DC, the Nation's Capital, doncha you know- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
