It might sound stupid, but I would love to know what "It's like you're Waiting For Godot..." means. I never heard that expression before. Thanks if anyone can help me. "Waiting for Godot" is an existentialist 20th-century play by Samuel Beckett, which portrays existence as essentially meaningless through two characters who are on-stage, all the while waiting for someone named "Godot" to appear. Many have interpreted this as humans awaiting the saving grace of "God", or as mankind waiting (desperately and anxiously) for meaning to come to their existence. There is a lot of humor in the play, but overall it's quite nihilistic and very BLEAK, to say the least. Shawn uses it in "If I Were Brave", I would guess, to portray a sense of aloneness, possibly hopelessness, about her life at the point she wrote the song (marriage break-up, etc.) And the sense that you're waiting for someone to come "rescue" you from your painful situation, but you really just have to find your own way out of that dark place. No one else can do it for you. That's my interpretation of it... It's not an ignorant question at all. "Waiting for Godot" is a Thomas Beckett play. It's a two-person play, and for the duration of the play, the two characters on stage are waiting for a character called Godot to arrive. But Godot never arrives. Waiting for Godot is an expression that's come to mean waiting for something that will never happen, or waiting for something that's futile.
