Thus, relevant comparisons would be to such CDs by other artists. Obviously this puppy is not in the same general category as her other releases--not even Cover Girl. With that said, I *love* Shawn's new Holiday Songs and Lullabies! Above all, I like that it has a consistent tone -- "lazy winter mood music," perfect for a snowed-in sunday or perhaps a quiet night with loved ones, scattered on the floor around the now mostly-coals-fireplace, drifting in and out, snuggly and serene. It's that lullaby tone, I guess. A wonderful sound to go to bed to, secure in your parent's love and strength. I'm just glad she didn't spoil the overall tone with a few boisterous holiday songs thrown in for variety. "Love Came Down At Christmas" is one of my favorites thus far. (Favorites on great new CDs do tend to evolve with each listen, eh?) The only head stratcher for me is "Silent Night." If I could, I would definitely program my CD player to skip that one. It's not bad, but the song is so overexposed, and thus far, I haven't noticed any new contribution in her interpretation of it. Buy it! Add it to your collection of mood music. And do give copies to friends and family (but wait about five or six weeks before doing so!) - -Meri- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I realized my last subject title was underwhelming. I *love* this CD. One warning, however: it's only 36 and 1/2 minutes long. - -Meri- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Man, I hate only having e-mail access on the weekends. Well, I made sure our local indie music store was going to carry HS&L, and I picked up my copy on Tuesday. I wasn't so sure about it the first time I listened to it (I'm like that with most albums-- it's actually a good sign if I don't love it on the first listen. It seems that the albums I like best are the ones I don't instantly click with.) However, on second and third listens I began to love it. I think it's a very beautiful record. My favorite at this point is probably Rocking-- it's just very comforting to hear, I think. I also really like the first track, In The Bleak Mid-Winter. All said, a very nice album to listen to while going to bed. - --Lindsey, currently waiting for Anna to get back home from college...waiting...waiting....waiting - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Gillilan" Subject: [s-r] Shawn in Atlanta Shawnsters: I saw Shawn perform Wed. night in Atlanta and it was yet another truly fabulous concert by our Shawn. The main reason I say this is because Shawn made us feel that she was putting on the show for each of us, and she made it seem that we were all just a bunch of friends getting together for a good time. She told us early on that she had no set list, that she would see how it goes, and folks called out requests, which she happily honored. She simply was there to "entertain" us and talk to us freely, and that's how the concert came off. There were only 400 of us there in the audience. Her voice was stronger than I have ever heard her sing, and I was amazed that anyone could hold the note on "Climb On" as long as she did. Also, the audience was terrific, and here, I've gotta brag on my much-younger Georgia Tech yellow jackets-the young ones still in college, as the audience was primarily made up of Tech students, the venue being on the Tech campus; everyone listened in rapt attention and during two songs, "Someday", and "If These Walls Could Speak", you could hear a pin drop, I swear. Shawn did not even need her guitar mic, as the acoustics in the hall carried her guitar well without the amplification. At the end of each song, the audience came alive and showed her sincere appreciation, so the audience also was great. Shawn performed two songs off of the new holiday cd-she even asked us first if we wanted to hear some of them. She then tried thinking of which ones were appropriate only for her guitar accompaniment(she only had her older Martin guitar) and she did a couple for us-very nice simple songs. (I agree with Meri in that Holiday Songs and Lullabies is not in the same general category as Shawn's other cds, but I love it for the music that it is). Shawn did comment on Callie-she said "it is getting harder to leave her rather than easier". Also, Shawn seems to me to be the same old Shawn as ever, although she's a mom, Shawn still cracks me up and still displays that happiness "just to play" and to "entertain". That's really what it was to me, just an exhibition of pure, unscripted entertainment, like we were in her living room with her, as she did chat back and forth with us a good bit. I'll list a complete review on my Shawn website, after I've had a chance to dissect my notes, so check my site later if you'd like to see the complete song list and more details on this fabulous experience. I'm very glad I went over to Tech to see Shawn and also visit my alma mater for some reminiscing.
