Actually it's kind of sad news.. but here's the thing: Neil and his brilliant new album (err... I'm reliably told its brilliant, still don't have it, slacker that i am) Try Whistling This, have been disqualified from this year's ARIA awards - Australian Recording Industry Association for the 99% of the list population who were wondering - because he now lives back home in New Zealand where he's from, as I may have mentioned, and where he recorded the album. Its a big shame really because this was decided after he'd been nominated and I'm sure he would've cleaned up - I believe Crowded House still hold the record for most ARIAs won, at 11 (Savage Garden came frighteningly close to equalling that this year but lets not dwell on that). Neil was eligible back then because he was living and working in Melbourne and the other guys were aussies... So i guess this means that i'm now officially required to stop saying "did you know he's ours?" with great pride and conviction... rats. Either that or I must willingly blur the geographical boundaries which we all go to such great pains to preserve.... oh well - it was nice that he was ours for a while ;) And I'm sure he'll kick ass in the NZ music awards.
