Right on, brother Rob. Shawn has not left the building! (Translation: All is still well in Small Repairs Land.) P.S. Last week, I finally 'fessed to a friend that I didn't know what the oft-heard "Elvis has left the building" line refers to. So now I know and can weave it into my posts like a real insider. I've been reading everyone's posts on the news about Shawn's upcoming CD with a great deal of interest and decided I could lurk no longer... For my 2 cents...I really think that Shawn is the sort of person and type of artist who could put her personal inprint on some holidays songs. I've been a big fan of her version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" since way back in 1990, when it first appeared on the "Acoustic Christams" compilation CD put out by Sony/Columbia. I'm absolutely crazy over her hard-to-find "Wish You Were Here." I have the rare CD single of that song, but I admit I hope it shows up on her latest CD so everyone will be more likely to hear it. If any of you are familiar with the great Kathy Mattea Christmas CD, "Good News," then you know what a truly beautiful and unique Christmas album it is. There isn't one "traditional" Christmas tune on the entire CD, but every song invokes all those wonderful Christmas-time-of-year feelings about family, friends, the blessings of love, peace, and good will. It's also an absolutely wonderful acoustic, folk influenced piece of music, with a touch of gospel thrown in here and there. I can invision Shawn doing something very similar, yet uniquely Shawn. No way that could even remotely be bad. Now, if Shawn were to decide to put out a CD of only traditional Christmas CDs at some point in her career, i.e, "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and "The Christmas Song," you can bet I'd be one of the first people in line to buy that sucker too. I'll be the first to admit it. Normally, I can't listen to Johnny Mathis, but come Christmas, and I have to break my Johnny Mathis sings Christmas songs CDs out of the moth balls and listen to "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow" until Santa comes down the chimney. I would more than gladly, and very willingly, do the same for Shawn. And another thing....If Sony/Columbia wanted to really make my Christmas happy this year---They could finally put out that Shawn Colvin video compilation that alot us here on the list would just die to have. Come on Sony, Shawn has brought you a lot of attention this year with her Grammy winning turn on "Sunny Came Home." I've seen video compilation tapes out there for MUCH lesser known artists than Shawn. Get on the ball over there. O.K., I'll get off of my soapbox now and turn the microphone over to someone else. Happy listening everyone.
