In this month's package I was surprised to see that they have added her, Mary Chapin Carpenter and many other artists on the SONY family of labels. Available are Fat City, Cover Girl and A Few Small Repairs for $5.66 for each CD plus about $2.50 shipping for each. Not bad you are a member. Check it out. While BMG's selection is limited, at times there are some really great opportunities to buy CD's at a really low price. I'd be happy to fill in details for anyone that wants to join. Just remember that artists don't get the same royalty rate when their product is sold through BMG and other record clubs (they get less). susan Susan Krauss mailto:skrauss@hooked.net Krauss Research http://www.wenet.net/~skrauss - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Perhaps the list would be interested, too. >We might find out how many list members belong to record clubs. There was a long discussion about this on Folk_Music List. Some artists commented about it there as well as industry insiders. BMG does license the music but they pay a smaller percentage to the artist then when the CD is sold via stores. Now I think the thinking is that they'll sell more so the percentage will be made up, but the licensing agreement does give the artist less money then if you bought the same CD at a store. (The same holds true with Columbia Music House, etc). >On the other hand, people may be exposed to her CD's thru the monthy magazine >that is sent to the members. Sales thru the club have >to be better to an artist than no sales at all. Right. But I think that's why you see that sometimes artists are not included in the mailing clubs - perhaps they don't want to accept the lesser payment. susan Susan Krauss mailto:skrauss@hooked.net Krauss Research http://www.wenet.net/~skrauss - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Grammy award-winning song writer, Shawn Colvin, has reason to celebrate! Her album, "A Few Small Repairs" has just gone platinum this month! It's Shawn's very first platinum record and it couldn't have happened to a finer artist or better album. "A Few Small Repairs" generated the multiple Grammy-winning track "Sunny Came Home" (Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year, produced and cowritten by John Leventhal), which she performed recently on the April 16th Oprah Winfrey Show. She'll take your questions about her career and her new album, "Live 88." I first heard Shawn after blindly ordering her music in 1990 when Columbia featured her in their catalog. Other than news from various mailing lists, I may not have heard her music until 1996 when her Sunny got so much airplay. While I have heard the facts about music clubs and how artists don't make the same $ from sales, I don't consider such clubs as terrible things either. I don't make regular purchases from BMG or Columbia, but I tend to buy new music from them when it looks interesting, but I haven't heard any reviews and the CD's only cost 7 bucks!! Exposure is exposure, (especially if you live in a part of rural america that lacks record stores and where the radio stations haven't a clue) if only we could get people to make future purchases from a store!
