A tad too short (she sang for one hour and then came out for 3 encores) but Shawn's voice was really strong and she was happy - you could see her smiling as she sang. I'd have to say that it was one of the all time best shows of hers I've ever seen. Set List: Someday Get Out of This House Trouble You & The Mona Lisa Another Long One Wichita Skyline One For the Road Tenderness on the Block Steady On Sunny Came Home Nothin' on Me Encores: Polaroids Shotgun Down the Avalanche If These Old Walls Could Speak Notes - One for the Road is the old Sinatra "It's quarter to three, there's no one in the place, except you and me." Shawn sung this the night before at the Waldon Woods benefit. Two audience members had a sign about wanting to sing Polaroids with her. First she said no (when she saw the sign) but then she agreed. So two young women sang the first verse of Polaroids and then Shawn took over. They were quiet enthusiastic and jumped and high fived as they left the stage. Shawn talked a lot and said she'd stop her "usual shtick" since we were all in a conversational mood. See this tour if it comes to your town!!!! susan P.S. to John DeFord - great to finally meet you!! Everything worked out fine - we should talk. But then we were all the way up against the wall on the left side (or is that the right side?... it's our left as we faced the stage). The show was still spectacular, though. I liked that she was more conversational than usual, though people were asking her for the same stories that she always tells, which seemed rather silly to me, especially if the people asking had already heard them. My friend Pam and I agreed that she talked a bit too long, so that it interrupted that relaxed, music-listening mode... but I was glad to see something different from her usual show. She complained about Oprah, talked about her toe nails, the baby, the benefit from the night before, etc. She actually even mentioned that people on the Internet were talking about her toenails, but I must admit that I'm way behind on reading the list, so I don't know if that was you guys. The two girls singing Polaroids was great, especially since I had yelled for Polaroids right before she finally decided to let them sing, so I like to think that maybe I had something to do with it. Everyone else wanted to hear Shotgun, so I figured I'd ask for something different. When she sang Shotgun, she did the Slingblade bit, which she said that might have gotten started at the Warfield last year... I saw that show and I remember them doing the slingblade bit, but I don't remember if it looked like they had just spontaneously made it up that night. My friend and I got there late, so we missed Ana Egge. Roger PS--Susan, it must've been a night of research librarians, because my friend Pam is a research librarian, and we ran into a friend of hers from library school who was there as well. strange, huh? - -----Original Message----- From: Mark Laubach [SMTP:laubach@ricochet.net] Sent: Saturday, April 18, 1998 9:50 PM To: Susan Krauss; Shawn-Colvin@plump.com; small-repairs@smoe.org Subject: Re: Shawn in San Francisco Just to add a little bit, I was sitting up in row F right and the acoustics and sound system where fantastic for Shawn. It really felt one on one with her. She was wearing somewhat heavy shoes and was tapping out the beat, between the lines you could hear her tapping all the way up where I was and also the soft sound of everyone's feet tapping out around me. Quite different from the show last year at the Warfield, but very very much worth seeing. Anne Egge was great too. I now have an autographed CD from her. She was down at the CD counter after the show signing. Mark At 01:54 PM 4/18/98 -0700, Susan Krauss wrote: >The show was great.
