First and foremost, let me say that Jean and everyone else out there who have said so are absolutely correct: Sarah is AMAZING and this tour is FANTASTIC!! I've seen Sarah 3 time on this current "Surfacing" tour (Oct. 3, 1997, Houston, TX -- March 15 & 16, 1998, both in Austin, TX) and the set list is simply stunning. If I count all the times I've seen Sarah play live (including concerts, Lilith Fair, radio shows, etc.) the number comes up to 14 and I can honestly say she gets better and better. Her stage presence, vocal strength, and talent are simply undeniable when you see her live. >Plenty >Do What You Have To Do* (piano only) >Witness >Ice >I Love You >Mary >Fear >Elsewhere >Vox >Into the Fire >Possession >----------------- ** pseudo encore >Ice Cream >Sweet Surrender >Fumbling Towards Ecstasy >----------------- ** real encore >Angel* The above songs are my picks for the stand outs of the current show. While everything is excellent, I feel like these are either jaw-dropping or just plain rockin'. I've always teetered between Tori and Sarah as my two favorites (I've seen Tori play live 9 times and I have met both of them multiple times and can say they are both really great people), but after the 3 shows I've seen on this tour, I really think I have to go with Sarah. She is just so, so ... WOW!! >I highly recommend this show... she played all but Circle off of FTE... there [snip] >call the screeching song) pretty impressive. I knew sarah was good, but i >didn't know she was THAT good. Whew! Yeah, Sarah's lighting is really amazing. I've been doing theatre since I was like 3, so I always pay special attentention to an artists light design and set. Sarah's is just as spectacular as her voice. Not only does she have the full range of various spots (most with rotating gobos and gels) she has a whopping 18 computer programmed VariLights (for those of you who don't know, those are the little lights that can move, change colors, change shapes, etc;) that she puts to very good use. VariLights are about $9,000 A PIECE, so you do the math. Then, on top of that, she has a full size fiber optic curtain that hangs behind the band at lights up during certain songs (I remember it specifically on "I Love You" and "FTE"). That curtain is about $16,000. So, I guess what I've really saying in all of this is what Jean said: if you get the chance, GO SEE HER!! You will not regret it. If you're a huge Sarah fan like me, I think you'll find it an almost spiritual expierence. But even if you're not that big of a fan, you will go away well on your way to becoming one. SHAWN FINE DAY Congratulations are in order for Columbia recording artist Shawn Colvin whose "A Few Small Repairs" album has just been certified platinum by the RIAA as of today, Tuesday, March 31. It's Shawn's very first platinum record and it couldn't have happened to a finer artist or better album. "A Few Small Repairs" generated the multiple Grammy-winning track "Sunny Came Home" (Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year, produced and cowritten by John Leventhal). Today is also the day a new Shawn Colvin track hits the stores; you can hear her version of Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" on an all-star tribute to "Rumours," which finds Ms. Colvin in the company of artists like Elton John (who does "Don't Stop") and Jewel ("You Make Lovin' Fun"). Right now, Shawn Colvin is on the road performing a series of intimate acoustic gigs. Here's where you'll find her. Hello! I've been a fan of Shawn Colvin's music since 1992. I've never seen her live, unfortunately. I've been trying record her TV-appearances from various European TV-channels. I'd like to get more of course so if there's anyone out there willing to trade videos with me, please, email me privately at . I got about 60min to trade starting from "Most Wanted" 07.07.93 Live Polaroid/Round Of Blues and ending to the most recent one, "Take it To The Bridge" 12.8.1997. I can watch NTSC and PAL VHS-tapes. I also have many hours of Suzanne Vega videos to trade if you're into her music. Ok, hope to hear from you soon and thanks for listening! Did I mention the Suicide Alley moves, or are we just thinking alike here, girl? That, above all, was the song that made me want to know her name. I don't post often enough for anyone to remember this, but back when they played the 9:30 Club I wrote about how hypnotic that song was and how much of the audience continued to dance its way out through the long lines when the show was over. She was a great contributer to the rhythm that night -- and practically mesmerizing to watch on that one song.
