We liked the days of intimate concerts with her, we liked the idea of being totally on fire about an artist few have heard about.... kinda the "best kept secret" thing.... (it's almost the same as millions of people suddenly flocking to your favorite coffeehouse when you used to have it all to yourself.) I think we all feel this way to some degree... I know that deep down I have mixed feelings about her Grammys and her airplay because I dont want her to become "common" or to sell out to the pop market. At the same time, though, I am so freakin' happy for her, because she finally has all the things she has always wanted, and I have never seen her look so happy. And I do trust Shawn's artistic integrity enough to know that she's not gonna go cheesy. So I say we swallow our attitudes that we are the "exclusive members of the Shawn Colvin country club, and how dare she branch out," and support her in everything that she does... she certainly deserves it! And for those who say Shawn's not an actor - we've had first hand accounts of her appearances in high school productions and I've heard her talk more then once about going on movie auditions. And we all know that it's hard to get Shawn to do anything she doesn't want to do (or she'll tell you she's unhappy - witness the solo tour without band after Fat City came out - she did it and bitched about it too). So if Shawn's willing to do this - great. I'd love to see it. Shawn was the best part on that Suddenly Susan show (which was barely watchable except when she was on). If it happens, I'll watch. If it doesn't - it's fun to think about folk music on TV. Oh - a long time ago someone asked how Shawn was going to play the guitar when she was pregnant. I meant to answer then as this question really bothered me. Guess what? Pregnant women can play the guitar and tour. Cyndi Lauper toured into her 7th month and played the guitar just fine. And she had a grand time. This is the 90's folks - some women work up until the day they deliver and everyone's just fine. Shawn's a smart woman and I'm sure wouldn't do a thing to hurt herself or her much wanted child. And though touring is hard she loves to perform. I can't wait to see her! I'm also kinda surprised by the generally hostile reaction to the possibility of Shawn branching out into the acting arena. I realize it was just a hoax, but it seems to me that limiting a person as talented as Shawn to just one area of artistic expression is more than just a bit selfish. I am aware that the vast majority of people on this list have only seen Shawn "playing herself" in various television cameos, but (take my word for it) she has the capacity to be as good a "character" actress as anyone out there. Personally, I would be overjoyed to see her tackle a weekly sitcom gig or film role. After all, David Bowie (and others) have proved that taking on an acting career need not mean the end of ones musical career. Apparently Lucy was going to add her considerable operatic singing skills to the production (she has many skills ya know). So there ya go. Even if Shawn decides that pregnancy doesnt mix with riding a horse while swinging a sword at people's heads with one hand, holding her guitar with the other, and simultaneously singing Sunny Came Home really *really* loudly to try and drown out xena's battle cry and the noisy bloody peasant villagers who only know that one shawn song, at least we may get to see Shawn and Xena working together yet. kat :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
