My heart bleeds for this poor misguided person - His spelling isn't up to much either. For the later time zones, go ahead and read. I want to spare the Hanson fans out there the anxiety of wondering whether or not they would actually be taken seriously at this years' carousal for the supposedly worldly enlightened yet totally airheaded they call the Grammys.Well, looks like the boomer /pooitically correct/ditzy broad elite has won out again. Seems the Recording Academy has not one ear when it comes to true talent. They totally humilisted the vbrothers Hanson by first giving them a marginal number of nominations, then setting them ip for a fall when they lost once to an artist (Jamirroquai or however the hell you spell it) whose name no one can understand, once to Shawn Colvin, whose stupid song no one could ever understand, and once to Paula Cole. . .whose gender no one can understand. They have the nerve to flaunt their "sensitivity" to youth in music with that buff-puff "musicares" program they flaunted (no doubt just a big dog and puppy show to get public support for federal taxpayer dollars), yet they did the unthinkable and turned a deaf ear to true talent once the opportunity, for the first time in so long, presented. So, 30+ crowd, when you wake up tomorrow, pat yourself on the back, ass, or whatever, because your demographic has once again succeeded in stifliong of and just making general fun of an act you thought was total bubblegum, bop, or whatever. You deserve it. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Now that I've actually *seen* the grammys, I just had to say a couple more things - and I swear then I'll shut up about it ;) Firstly, I kinda appreciated all the "did ya notice..." things that have been thrown around since yesterday, cos it gave me the chance to actually enjoy watching Hanson perform... breathlessly waiting for the fateful moment of drumstick dropping. Needless to say, I laughed myself stupid when it happened (heheheh.. poor kid - better find him a therapist...and a hairdresser with a nice sharp pair of scissors) Secondly, and following on in the "did you notice...." vein of things: do you all realise that we, Shawn's fans, ignorant fools that we are, have had the name of the song *wrong* all this time? Yes, the Grammy Gods have spoken - the Record of the Year shall be known as Sunny *Come* Home. sigh.... sorry, but i get nit-picky about these little linguistic details (ya with me on this Shell?), particularly when it involves renaming one of Shawn's songs, slapping it up on the screen right underneath her face and televising it to the world. And lets face it - Sunny Come Home sounds like a crappy son of Lassie movie or something... ok - done whining now :) gonna go have another laugh at the drumstick incident to make up for the typo thing. heheheh.... kat :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Here's another one. Did anyone else >notice the growth of armpit hair that Paula Cole was >sporting. What could she have been thinking? Also, was it Gee, what could Paula have been thinking? Hmm, I think I'll grow armpit hair for the Grammys? I hate to spoil your illusions, but we women really don't go out of our way to create body hair. It's natural. From past Paula-watching, she seems to go for the easier path of just letting it all grow out (translation: she doesn't shave her pits). Not everybody does. Do you, Greg? (Hmm.. just had to ask.) But anyway, before this gets too rabid, we just wanted to say that armpit hair is not an absurd notion. And seeing as this is a Shawn list, and Shawn's feminist (though not rabid), this is even sort of relevant. Anna (who's never shaved) Lindsey (who doesn't care to disclose the history of her body hair, or possible lack thereof) bye now!!!!!! ps-- we also watched the grammies, and had to restrain ourselves from shrieking hysterically when Shawn won (my little brother was sleeping upstairs..... the problems with living with your parents. Oh well. Eighteen's not too far away...) - --lindsey pps-- I think it was the telepathic mind-power of the list that helped her win. True believers will conquer the evil forces of Hansonites!! - --anna - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I'm a day late, I had to play a gig the night of the show. (At which, in fact, I debuted a new song that starts, "I sleep in a Shawn Colvin t-shirt/I was supposed to keep you so far from hurt." so I may have been singing about our heroine while she was winning an award.) My big questions; Why did gatecrashers have to mar my two favorite performers moments? Where were Ol Dirty Bastard and the Soy Bomb guy during Hanson and Celine Dion? And where were any security personnel? (They should have let Dylan use his own roadies, they'd have demolished that guy.) And wasn't Dylan's acceptance speech a classic? Anybody who can move from Buddy Holly at the Duluth National Guard Armory to a Robert Johnson quote in one fell swoop should just get all the awards Shawn doesn't win. (Plus did anybody catch a beaming Patti Smith cheering on Bob with figure skater Tara Lipinsky standing in front of her? What a classic juxtaposition; punk godmother and Olympic gold metal teenager on the same screen. Is America a great country or what?) Here's hoping that this win frees Shawn up to do whatever she wants with her next record, not having to meet anyone's sales or artistic goals but her own. As much as I'm looking forward to a new record I hope she takes a nice long rest at home in Austin after the baby and just contemplates the creativity to come. Congratulations Shawn, and thanks for the music.
