I don't know a lot of Nancy Wilson's stuff, so i can't comment directly on that one... i have noticed, however, that shawn appears on about a gazillion other artists' CDs. If you go to the Towers Records site, and do a search on shawn, there are many many CDs on which she usually lends support vocals. I was intrigued by shawn's songwriting technique that i read about in an article in the Performing Songwriters Magazine. She described one of the ways she writes lyrics as taking an existing song and writing "on top" of it.... but only using the rhythm and cadence of the words. The one that sticks with me is when she said that one of her songs used Sting's _Lazarus Heart_ . I wish i could figure out what song that was... it could be one that she hasn't released yet. I know shawn does write melodies, but many also come from John Leventhal... Has he collaborated with Nancy Wilson? That might explain some of the similarities Anders is hearing. Lyrically, i think shawn is pretty unique. I was asked recently what my favorite shawn song was, and my answer is always, _Kill the Messenger_. Funny thing is, although i have the general sense of what it is about... you know, the Jane Siberry/ Writer's Block thang which we have discussed before... but i still have trouble with the significance of the individual images she conjures up in her lyrics. Like the "Shibboleth of Shadowland" or "love wriggling up from the mud on the shores of Granville." Leaves me baffled. Is anyone else more enlightened than me on those references? (I was a science geek in school....) And something that really shocked me was that i finally listened to Jane Siberry, and i totally HATED it. Perhaps it was that particular CD which was "Maria," i think. But i thought for sure i would like it at least a tad since she had such an effect on shawn. But, no... couldn't stand it. Bleh. Ya know... I'm sure i had a point when i started this post... but it would seem that it is lost forever... So, i'll go now... leaving you to ponder my intentions... Everyone start sending those positive vibes to Shawn for the Grammies. She's gonna win something.... i can feeeeeeeeel it. (begin mantra now: "shawn needs a grammy, shawn needs a grammy, shawn needs a grammy.....") Later! :) ~jean aka bH now playing: October Project - self titled (<---perfect for a rainy day like today...) PS: Don't see the movie _Sphere_... bad bad bad. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I can't believe what they did to that show! They essentially did a Muppet Show format, which was strange, since it was Sesame Street monsters... and what happened to Telly?!? I haven't seen Sesame Street in years, but I remember when Telly was the clueless muppet. I guess now that they have Elmo, they've changed good ol' Telly. It's all wrong, I tell ya. . Oh well, at least Shawn sang a great song. BTW, a lot of those songs are covers of classics originally done by Jim Henson himself. I have a CD with the originals. I miss Jim. Without Henson, the Muppets have become just another "puppet" of those evil Disney bastards (I can't believe I'm siding with the Southern Baptists, but Disney really is evil).
