[BigHAIR844@ao] RE: [s-r] Shawn date for St.Paul, MN ["Skolos, Debra" Nightclub 9:30 - Information (http://930.com/info/index.html) From the website, you can get the directions... It is reasonably easy to find... hehhheh... (much easier if i am not the navigator, eh Sara?) So how do i know all this? (mmMMMWAAHAAAHAAHA! <--evil laff... i've been waiting for an opportunity to slip in my review of the Paula Cole show i saw there on Valentines Day....hhehhhehh) Worry not... those of you who read this will be rewarded with tidbits of info about the venue... but ya gotta read the whole thing. Am i evil or what? hehhehhheh. Of course.. i can't prevent you from hitting the delete button.. but i'll take my chances. By now you're thinking.."So get on with it already!" Sheesh! Ok! Ok! (Am i hearing voices?) I went to see Paula at the 9:30Club on Valentines day... (wearing my hooded black shroud, of course, to celebrate that oh-so-wonderful day...Bah! HumBug!) Armed with a Dowtown Map, and pepper spray... we were ready to find this venue. Just find the intersection of 7th & V Street...A seemingly simple task... Ahhh... but not as simple as we thought. We missed a couple of turns here and there due to my navigational skills, or, more accurately, a lack thereof... but we finally found the intersection we were looking for. Only, wait. Where the heck is the venue? We circle around a couple of times, trying to figure out which dilapidated building could be the 9:30Club... It just wasn't there! Finally, on about the 3rd pass, we decided that the building on the corner with a window that had a "Sold Out" sign casually placed in it, must've been the place. There is absolutely no sign indicating that is the 9:30Club. "Shawn is going to play here for TWO shows? " we wondered... "What could possibly be appealing about this place? It's a Dump!" But ALL the famous singers play here... there must be something unique about it. We were skeptical.... Hmmmm... would we, or wouldn't we return to see shawn in this run down old bldg. That was yet to be determined. Parking is tricky... there is two-hour parking on the surrounding blocks until 6:30pm... so you can get there at 4:30pm to secure your spot. I would advise getting there early lest you are forced to park in some really really scary places. There is a McDonalds, Taco Bell and other small places nearby. We got our food and hung out for a spell. The doors opened at 7pm. They finally let us in and we realized the appeal of the venue. It is actually a great place to see a show, though you would have never ever thought that from the looks of the exterior. Great Acoustics, and places to buy food and alternate beverages. The show will most likely be General Admission. If you are vertically impaired like me... you will want to snag a balcony spot at the rail. To get upstairs, go straight ahead and to the left. There is only one way to the upper floor. If you like toughing it out on the floor... front row groupies will have a great shot for center stage. Just keep in mind that there may be some camera people walking around in the front.... the venue has multiple monitors for those who are watching from further back. So there we were for Paula. Who was VERY impressive. I'll spare you non- believers all the details, except to say that if you have the slightest inkling of interest in paula's music, you MUST see her show. Who can resist a show that involves stomping pie pans, incredible percussion, grunting, quirky dancing, catchy tunes and a phenomenal voice? Man it was good. Encore songs? Get this. Carmen, with paula on guitar; Jolene, yes by Dolly Parton, ala beat box paula (she'd make an incredible rap artist-hehheh); and La Vie En Rose, that French tune we can't get out of our heads when you hear it being played on an accordian. Wowee. What a fantastic show. Okay.. i'm done. I could go on... but.... alas.... i know this is not the place. sigh. Okay.. so my point? 9:30Club... scary as heck to get there...but if you get there early and snag a good parking place... you'll be just fine. It's a great venue. I'm trying reeeeeaaaaallllllyyyy hard to make it to one of shawn's shows there..... but already have a Sarah McLachlan show or two lined up for that week. One in Charlotte, NC, and another in Richmond, VA. (Just call me Jena: Concert Road Warrior!) Hmmmmmm.... do you suppose i will get fired for getting too much time off for concerts? Hehhhehh. Oh well. Sue me. :) ~jean aka bH - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
