Hey Jean and fellow repair-persons, I have yet to hear Nothin' on Me, but that really doesn't mean anything considering that I only heard Mona Lisa like twice on our top 40 station... did that single do anything substantial? By the way, Jean, funny you should mention grey hair... I found my first two strands of it last night, and I cried. I'm only 25............ :( Question: I am not getting very many Small Repairs emails lately... I'm wondering if I am missing some, or are we all just losers and not posting as much as we did? i didnt even see my last post or any responses (or are you all just ignoring me? ;)). Whassup? Davis) Subject: [s-r] introductions and Shawn TV Hi there. I just joined this list last week. Have been a SC fan since about the time Fat City came out. Actually started listening to that cd because I was a huge fan of the Subdudes and I had heard they were backing SC on her latest cd. So I picked it up and the rest is history. I've only had the pleasure of seeing her live once. That was 2 years ago; the show was just her and a bass player. I'm a big fan of her guitar playing and was wondering if anyone new what kind of acoustic guitar she plays when in solo concert. I think its a Martin which would put one out of my price range for now but maybe in the future when I'm a wealthy man I could get one :) I caught her on Leno and Vibe last week and that got me thinking. She's great to watch play and its a good way for us guitar players (or learner in my case) to figure out songs. Has anyone ever made a compilation VHS tape of her TV performances? And if so, is such a tape available to get a copy of? I've heard she's done Austin City Limits, Sessions at W. 54 and some VH1 special. I don't have cable and our stupid PBS station her in San Diego has foolishly elected not to carry any of those programs so I'd love to get a SC compilation tape. Anyway, just some thoughts. I'm also always on the lookout for concert tapes so if you know of any ... All the best. Welcome to the list... we are always glad to have more Shawn-verts! The guitar that Shawn plays the most is a Martin D-16, and she uses D'Addario E-16 Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar strings (she has an endorsement with them... check out their web site for a little article about her). I just bought a Martin, when I was looking at them, i checked out the D-16 since that seems to be Shawn's "Old Faithful," but I ended up liking the J-1 much better for the sound and the price. It's about a grand cheaper than the D-16. Just some advice: if you want a new guitar, you really need to play a ton of brands and models and decide which one best suits your taste, your style, and your needs... and remember that guitars are so different that even two guitars of the same model may sound completely different. Get which one sounds best for you! :) You probably knew this already, but I thought I'd throw in my dime's worth. Shawn has preferred Martins since she first replaced her old Yamaha with a D-28 back in the seventies. > I caught her on Leno and Vibe last week and that got me thinking. She's > great to watch play and its a good way for us guitar players (or learner in > my case) to figure out songs. Trying to copy Shawn's guitar playing might do you more harm than good, Glen. She has a tendency to use a lot of alternate tunings which makes it a very frustrating task to try to read anything from her fingerings.
