Is it worth checking out ? Bjorn >> I don't have any of Kelly's music, but i did have the pleasure of seeing her perform on the B stage at a Lilith Fair in Charlotte, NC. She has an incredible voice and stage presence. I don't have any idea if she writes her own music, but the songs were pretty good! Catchy melodies and straightforward guitar, upright bass, and a touch of fiddle to boot. I would place her music in a category close to Mary Chapin Carpenter's. Like the way Chapin's music sort of hinges on country twang, but not quite... Almost in the way that some of Shawn's stuff would blend in perfectly on Country Music Radio Stations. I think Leventhal is a master of blurring the edges of music... The stuff he produces is not Pop, Not Rock, Not Country, Not Folk... it's just good. Once when asked to describe shawn's music, he replied, "We don't know what the Hell it is!" He also lends his expertise on Marc Cohn's first album... tho not as the producer. Instead, his credits on the albulm include: Guitars - bass, slide, electric & acoustic, Organ, Drum Program, Fender Six- string Bass, and EVEN Irish Bouzouki! Is there nothing this man can't do? Hmmm.. did i have a point? oh yeah.. sorry. I'm not a huge fan of country music in general (i find myself unable to deal with the nasal twanging), but there are lots of country songs that i totally love! Those songs usually end up being the crossover hits that are a little on the "pop" side. (I have no idea if Kelly has had any success on the country charts.) I suspect that Leventhal has maybe blended her sound within these 2 realms to being right on the border of pop & country. But of course, i only had a 25-minute B-stage set to go by. That was my impression of her live stuff anyway. I forsee her having a crossover hit someday. (BigHAIR the Clairvoyant wields her powers!) Her CD is on my CDs-To-Get List. If you like Chapin, I'd give her a go. ~jean, with a not-so-informed opinion seeing how she doesn't even have the CD... aka bH - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Yee and who happen to live about one mile from me :) Yes, it's me, Roxanne. Everyone, especially Jean, pick your jaws up off the floor now that you realize I am still alive out here :). I became a major lurker and eventually just had to dump about 1000 unread messages. The last few months have been hectic...I had a full time job, a part time job, went back to grad school part time and had a boyfriend in NYC. Well, I've dumped the part time job and the boyfriend, so my life is a little more manageable this days! I've missed you guys and have been meaning to drop a line saying I'm no longer missing in action, so I took Jean's mention of BFF as a sign forcing me to post :). My Shawn page is still down but hopefully will be back up again soon (complete with pictures of me and Jean with *the* woman herself). I recently went on vacation...I followed the Barenaked Ladies around the midwest on their Christmas tour, logging over 2000 miles in the process. What can I say...I'm a BNL groupie. If anyone is a BNL fan and wants to hear details about my trip (including two nights of back stage passes and one glorious day of watching a sound check--it was like my own private concert!) e me and I'll fill in the details. It's good to be back! rox :) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
