It's been a great year for singer/ songwriter Shawn Colvin, and 1998 is already shaping up to be stellar as well. Fresh from her three Grammy nominations for her hit "Sunny Came Home" for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (allstar, Jan. 6), Colvin now finds herself getting offers for bit acting roles. She has a small role on a February episode of NBC's Suddenly Susan, starring Brooke Shields, for which her song "Nothin' On Me" is the theme; and she'll have a cameo on the syndicated Fame L.A. during the week of March 2. According to a spokesperson for NBC, Colvin's spot on Suddenly Susan is more than just a cameo. Here's the scenario in the episode titled "Ready... Aim... Fong": The show's music critic, Todd, played by David Strickland, discovers that Colvin is playing a secret show at a small club and invites his fellow writers/ editors at the magazine to come along. Everyone's surprised of his newfound interest because of his scathing review of Colvin's last show. He explains that he later found out he had an ear infection, which made Colvin sound muddy and tinny and that if he could explain this to her, they'd have a big laugh. But she doesn't laugh. He leaves her a note and they finally meet in the end with "hilarious results," according to the spokesperson. As for the Fame L.A. spot, Colvin will be performing her song "Polaroids" on the show in a fantasy sequence in which Harvey Fierstein (Mrs. Doubtfire, Independence Day), who plays her manager in the episode, is thinking about her returning to a club she performed at earlier in her career. Meanwhile, "Nothin' On Me" is also the next single from her Columbia album A Few Small Repairs; and Colvin and her husband Mario Erwin are expecting their first child in August. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
