I would still recommend getting the books, though, especially AFSR, it is very accurate and thorough. I generally just use them to get me started, then get the trickier cool stuff from listening to the CDs and/or watching video, or better yet, live. BTW, if anyone has the chords for "Don't You Think I Feel It Too", I would appreciate it if you could point me to them. TIA About the pronunciation of Colvin, about the only person I've heard pronounce it correctly is David Letterman, when she has appeared on the Late Show. I have never heard of her correcting anyone on it, she seems to treat it as a non-issue. It reminds me of the late, great bassist, Jaco Pastorius. Everyone I knew assumed he was from Eastern Europe or something and thought his name was pronounced yock-o pass-toe-rye-us. Turns out he's a kid from Florida, and he pronounces it jack-o pa-story-us. - -John (who is defiantly not year 2000 compliant) At 11:38 AM 12/30/97 -0400, David Hughes wrote: >Hi everybody, > > Hey guess what? Heh heh. Just thought I'd share my '97 missionary successes with the list: Since this year started, I've been attempting to hook both my parents on certain high-quality musicians which I think should be heard at high volumes in our household. The results, as of this last day of '97: My father has become an honorary shawnhead, I believe, seeing as he has attended two concerts and has promised to attend another. The crazy thing is that he wasn't completely enraptured in the first ten minutes of his first show, but... for someone who really doesn't listen to anything made later than the '70s, I think he's making progress. He liked the second show. (The first time was with her band, and perhaps the trio is more familiar in style for him.) In fact, by the second show, he stopped looking at Lindsey and I like we were crazy and actually encouraged us to jump the security fences (This was at the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle) to try to meet her. That's my dad. My mother has stopped blocking any sound that comes from my & my sister's side of the house: She'll actually listen to Shawn at 6:00 AM. I got Cover Girl for Christmas, and (heheheheh) she's hooked. She likes this album. She whistles along. She likes "Killing the Blues" (Lindsey and I are tickled pink. Her mother spontaneously bursts into renditions of "Another Round of Blues") And then there's my sister. Let's just say we're all glad she gave up guns & roses. Unfortunately, now that she's a traveling hippie, we miss her... the house is _awfully_ quiet. You can, like, hear people. Well, she came back for Christmas (she spent solstice prank night in Eugene, torturing her roomates), and the battle of the stereos commenced. My sister got about 7 reggae CDs. My mom and I got headaches. Apparently, her current roommates have nearly the complete Shawn collection, so she's being slowly acclimated. Unfortunately, her first introduction to Shawn was the Sunny faze. "Sunny Came Home" on the bus. "Sunny Came Home" in the grocery store. "Sunny Came Home" every freakin' time you turn on the radio. I tried lending her a tape with Joni Mitchell (whom she loves) interspersed with Shawn, but so far she certainly won't admit to liking her. It may take a decade before she'd back down. Still and all, though, she gets major points for her gift to me this year: An organic cotton tour T-shirt from one of Shawn's Colorado stops. (Ctrl-G!)(Ctrl-G!)(Ctrl-G!) Well, that was a satisfying ramble. I really must go prepare for my thrilling new year's experience (let's just say that Lindsey and I won't need to tape Dick Clark's Rockin Eve show), so, Until next year, Anna (of the Anna & Lindsey conglomerate, half of which is sleeping in. Hah. That's impossible at my house. If you download the greeting on the from Shawn's section of the Sony site, Shawn says "Hi my name is Shawn Colvin(CALL-vin)..." yaddya yadda yadda. I figured that was the correct way since she said it herself. Shawn CALL-vin does have internal rhyme, is that the proper term? I've rambled enogh today. Better watch it buddy, there's australians on this here list remember... heh heh.... ;) I gotta say, I'm pretty darn sure *I* don't say it Shone Coolvin... and after much listening to the "hi, this is shawn colvin...." messages, all it sounds like to me is colvin (as in coal-vin) with an american accent, rather than an intentional call-vin... but that's just my non-american perspective ;) Ya all sound just wrong to me (heh heh.. kidding! I'm kidding!!) btw, does she seriously have an australian mailman, or are ya just messing with our heads? Cos that'd be so cool!
