Greg, FWIW - For What It's Worth... I agree with regarding Flesh and Bone being better overall than The Tide, but do you really attribute the difference to production? They are definitely different, production-wise, but for me, the greatest difference comes mainly from Lucy herself and her growth as a performer and songwriter in the ~2 years between the two. She and her husband wrote most of the songs on Flesh and Bone (8 of 13), whereas she wrote only 3 of the 12 tracks on The Tide. Personally, from a production standpoint, it's a toss-up between the two for me. I like Shawn's (mostly) stripped down style on The Tide (especially The Tide, Texas Blues, and Goodnight) and I also think that My Name Joe, Guinevere, and The Eyes of My Beholder are standouts. Flesh and Bone is strong throughout, with Scorpion, If You Could See, Still Life, and I've Just Seen a Face being my faves. I'd like to hear a Gorka recommendation, as well. After seeing Lucy, she really talked up Cliff Eberhardt, especially his latest effort, 12 Songs of Good and Evil (I think that's it, anyway) which I purchased, but frankly I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet... Thanks for the Solus recommendation, I'll check it out. Larry Klein is not Shawn's new husband. I don't think that was Larry Klein unless he underwent an operation since July when I saw him and Shawn and Steurt Smith perform. That was the keyboard guy who performed on her A Few Small Repairs tour. Forget his name. - -----Original Message----- From: Fred Griswold To: small-repairs@smoe.org Date: December 18, 1997 4:15 PM Subject: [s-r] Shawn Rawks!!! >Shawn on GMA: > >Wow. man….. just Wow!
