For my part, it has been a mostly pleasurable experience and certainly a learning one :) It's been fun to watch the list grow and with it all the conversations that come with a group of people who've gathered not only to discuss Shawn Colvin and her music, but all the other things that mean something in life: jobs, children, family, computers, movies, and just about everything else. There's been a couple of snags along the way, but the most boring conversation there is, is one in which everyone agrees, if you ask me. I'd like to take a moment to thank the people who've made this list technically possible. Jason Greshes, the owner/operator of Harbinger, the Paula Cole mailing list is the person I turned to for advice on setting up an automated mailing list. He gave several suggestions for finding a server to host the list and generously offered to help me with any questions I encountered along the way. My search lead me to Jeff Wasilko, the generous guy who runs SMOE.ORG out of his house, free of charge, for people to use to host music-related mailing lists on. My heart-felt thanks goes to both of them. Finally, I'd like to thank Jean, my ever-present partner in crime here on Small Repairs. Without her dedication, vision, and efforts this list would not only not exsist, but would exsist without the support of AGF, Shawn's management. Jean: it has been my pleasure getting to know you. You have my love and respect now and forever!! Now here it is folks!! That's right, enough of my babbling, here's Jean's part of the message: - -------------------- Well, well, well. It's been six whole months that this list has been in existence. And, wow... it's been nuthin but fun! (Ctrl-G! heh heh, right Kat?) I can remember when i first got the idea a couple of years ago... i waited and waited and waited for someone to start one; but no mailing list. Without any real knowledge of how to run a list, i finally i got up the nerve to ask AGF Entertainment if i could try one on my own. They were kind enuff to not only to give me their permission, but also their full support. There are a few of you who have been on the list from the very first day! The then un-named list had its humble beginnings as a cut and paste ordeal, and CC:d to everyone by hand. Whew! What was i thinking?! I went through AOL profiles one by one to drum up interest... and the list kept on growing... and growing... and growing... Rut Roh! Then one day, Casey Christian, for no good reason, volunteered to help me out of the goodness of his heart! Actually, it was more like, "Jean, are you nuts?! Let me help!" (Heh heh..Thanks for the rescue, Casey!!!! ) He took on the major task of setting up this listserv, and the rest, as they say, is history. :) So we've seen shawn's popularity grow -- our Guru has come a long way! I mean.. once you hit the tabloids, you are IN baby!!! :) It has been nice to actually have people who appreciate her talent to share it with. I think it is safe to say that we are a bunch of dedicated fans -- Thanks to each and every one of you for taking part in the community that we have created as a result of shawn's music. We've got Small Repairers in Asia, the U.K., Australia (Ctrl-G!), Canada, Germany, and just about every corner of the US! Dude! How amazing is that? By golly.. you even have someone from Patrick Springs! ;) Say -- we have had some laffs, haven't we? Words and phrases that will bring about a chuckle everytime i hear them: "Flying Paintings" "Hemmorhoids" "Clairol" (Thanks Neil) "Sony" "Hanson" "Spice Girls" -- man, what a riot! Have had some small world stories to tell... Gerry? We determined we were how many feet away from each other at the Toad's show? Sara, aren't you glad i dragged ya to Austin? Janel and Mimi -- we probably bumped into each other backstage in Austin and didn't even know it. It's all kinda cool. I can't tell you what this list has meant to me... how my life has changed bcz of it... and i shudder to think about what life would've been like had it never existed! Egads! Crazee thought. I've had the opportunity to make some life-long friendships thru the list and for that i am truly grateful. So before i get way too sappy... i just want to thank Shawn for making terrific music, AGF for their support of the list; all the people who have shared their shawn stories with me on and off the list, expanded my musical horizons & sent me videos and tapes and CDs-- I've never had sooo much shawn stuff ever!!! woo woo!!! and last but definitely not least... one more Great Big Thank You to Casey, to whom i am eternally grateful. Yer da greatest, man! :) Thanks for putting up with my antics everyone!! I've had a blast. Here's to 6 months... (clinking glasses for a toast) And Here ("clink") is to many more to come! YAY! :) ~jean aka BigHAIR Can't wait to see some of you in Telluride! (Psst.. Hey John D. -- made up your mind to come yet?) :) :) :) - -------------------- Until next time, - -Casey and Jean - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I also wanna thank both of ya, as well as everyone else who helped set it up, and everyone who's joined in to the chaos at some point or another.... this list has been particularly great for geographically challenged people like myself.. just think of all the artists, events etc I never woulda heard of otherwise! (whew - blows the mind just thinkin about it). Jena, I'll definitely buy ya a drink in Telluride and Casey, if you go, I'll buy you one too! (I'd better watch it, or I'll find myself buying drinks for the whole darn list...) ;) Just think, we can celebrate the [s-r] anniversary at Telluride!!
