Totally agree with you here. But, I loved it from the first time I put it in the stereo!! >paula cole - this fire <--- just let it go ladies! Great album!! I've had it since '96 though, so I guess it doesn't really count as my 97 list. >ani difranco - not a pretty girl <-- saw her live for the first time this year >too! Thanx j! I *love* Ani. For you guys who haven't heard her, trust me -- you'll LOVE her!! I've had the pleasure of seeing her live 3 times, and she's simply amazing. And to Jean: you've just gotten the tip of the iceberg. Do yourself a favor. Go out and buy 'Dilate' (her newest studio album) and 'Living in Clip' (her 2-CD live album). Both are excellent and I have no doubt that they'll earn a special place in your collection of music. Ok, now, for my "discoveries" of 1997: 1.) Chantal Kreviazuk, 'Under These Rocks and Stones'. This is a simply amazing album. I haven't been this riveted by an artists since the first time I heard Sarah. Chantal is a Canadian singer/songwriter who is comparable to Sarah, but with a harder/more "rock" sound. If you like Sarah, Shawn, Ani, etc; I think you'll really like this album. The two singles you might have heard on the radio are "God Made Me" and "Surrounded". 2.) Alana Davis, 'Blame it on Me'. The first time I heard Alana was on the radio when the DJ announced that the song "32 Flavors" was coming up next. Of course, I freaked out because the song is by Ani DiFranco and I'd never heard her on the radio before. But then the guy goes, "by Alana Davis". I was like, what?! I couldn't believe somebody had covered one of my favorite Ani songs and was COVERING IT!! I was completely prepared to hate it and hate the Alana-whoever, but then it came on and as hard as I tried not to, I liked it. But still determined to hate Alana, I went and bought the CD to prove that she really sucked. She didn't. Other than "32 Flavors", she wrote all the other songs and she has a great voice. This has become one of my faves. 3.) Katell Keineg, 'Jet'. I've already ranted about how great this Lilith Fair discovery is, so I won't waste anymore time drooling over her. But, if you don't have this CD -- get it!! 4.) Jonny Lang, 'Lie to Me'. Well, I was raised on country and blues/jazz, which is all my parents listened to. I don't like country at all, but I still have an appreciation for good blues. Well, to say that Jonny is "good at the blues" would be a HUGE understatement!! He's great. I mean, the first time I heard him I was just like, whoa!! Then, I found out he was 16 and I was like WHOA!! Then I saw him live, and I was like WHOAAAAAAAAAA!! I gotta say, with all my manly pride intact, I LOVE THIS KID!! :) So, there you have. Later, guys and girls... - -Casey - -+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+- casey@tisd.net http://www.tisd.net/~casey/ "If I shed a tear, I won't cage it ... if I feel a rage I won't deny it ...
