I don't cope well with confrontation), but I thought it only fair to forward this message I got from Hans-J=FCrgen, a list member and ex-Sony exec in Germany. I've already apologised to him for causing offence, since I myself really have no grudge with Sony. Maybe I/we (whoever - don't take it personally *anyone*) should just learn to be a little more fair in our judgement of companies, since there's always both good and helpful employees as well as maybe the ones that really don't care too much... (story of life really, isn't it?) OK, that's all... ~ Kat ~ - --------------5B6D3744384B Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Disposition: inline Received: from mail.magna.com.au for slsa with Cubic Circle's cucipop (v1.13 1996/12/26) Fri Sep 19 08:53:01 1997 X-From_: hjw@pobox.com Thu Sep 18 19:54:47 1997 Received: from mail2.metronet.de (mail2.metronet.de [193.168.128.16]) by magna.com.au (8.8.5/8.6.10) with SMTP id TAA16289 for ; Thu, 18 Sep 1997 19:54:39 +1000 (EST) Received: (qmail 6889 invoked from network); 18 Sep 1997 09:54:26 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO ws30.media-support.de) (192.168.10.93) by mail2.zentrale.metronet.de with SMTP; 18 Sep 1997 09:54:26 -0000 Message-ID: <3420FAA4.4B22@pobox.com> Date: Thu, 18 Sep 1997 11:55:48 +0200 From: Wieneke Reply-To: hjw@pobox.com X-Mailer: Mozilla 3.01Gold [de] (Win95; I) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: slsa@magna.com.au Subject: [nsc] Your post about the video compilation Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Dear Kat, = You wrote "...And if in typical Sony fashion it don't work, then we can always do it ourselves like Andrew said..." As Shawn's former Product Manager in Germany, I am a bit upset about your comment. If I had gotten such a fan-request during my time at Sony, I certainly would have done (or at least tried to do) something about it. And I would like to remind you, that not everything a fan heart desires is possible to be done by record companies. = I feel that record companies are often blamed for not distributing music for free. But that is simply not the way it works. I would also like to get a Porsche and not pay for it, but that won't be possible (at least as long as we want to keep private property in our society). So I would appreciate you and the rest on the list to be a bit more differenciated in putting the blame on a group of people who might to the best of their knowledge and power try to achieve as much as possible for the artist (which, in return, will maximise the record company's profit). Thanx for your understanding. Answer me, if you feel like it. You can also post this message, if you feel it is worth to be done... For the last few years I've been playing Steady On and Fat City over and over, especially in my car. For those who haven't heard it, Live '88 is just Shawn and her guitar, with no production, recorded at a few clubs in 1988-1990. It's really neat to hear many of the songs on Steady On in their bare state here on Live '88. If you don't mind buying a tape, you can order it from Plump Records for 5 bucks, including shipping, which was $1.24 and it came in 2 days. (If you only want a CD, then go elsewhere, as this is a promotion for the tape). They even give you a Shawn bonus single tape with Ol '55 by Tom Waits, (not available on any album) and Someday by Steve Earle, from the Cover Girl Album. I think this is a terrific deal and I'm even going to order one for a friend as a gift and have it sent directly to his house. I have nothing to do with Plump records, and I just wanted to pass along a tip for a special promotion. Shawn's Plump website is at: http://www.plump.com/colvin.htm and their phone number is 1-800-PLUMP CD to order the tape, M-F 10am-6pm eastern. Does this version of Tom Waits' Ol' 55 differ from the one that apears as a 13th track on the bog-standard european issue of "Cover Girl", by any chance? (BTW, did our Aussie friends get that extra, too? Hope so, seems it seems your CD prices are way above what US residents pay, just like here.)
