I've got the stubs in shoe box, I can go count if you want. 7) favorite shawn song - I don't wanna pick one. Sometimes the happy songs on 'Fat City'; sometimes the sad ones. I do like 'Ricochet in Time' all the time though, and I adore Shawn's 'Fearless Heart' cover. 8) additional comments -I'm a 'Fat City' convert who passed up a chance to see Shawn in 1990 or so. "What folk music? Ick!" I guess you could say I've learned my lesson. Other music: I worship at the altar of power pop music from the Beatles to the Replacements to Marshall Crenshaw et alia. Other folks I like: Steve Earle, Freedy Johnston, Wilco, Mark Knopler and assorted Canadian art-rockers, although I was disappointed by Sarah McLachlan's latest. 9) name (optional) - Mark F. Shawn is one of three people featuring on the "All Back To My Place" page. (The others are Mike Myers and Ali Campbell of UB40) A small piece but features are : Music Shawn's currently grooving to : Ana Begge - River Under the Road. and Chris Whitley - Terra Incognita. All time favo(u)rite album : Aaron Copland - Piano Music. or Beatles '65. First record bought : Meet the Beatles. Which musician (other than yourself) have you ever wanted to be? Neil Finn Favo(u)rite Saturday night record - second side of John Martyn's Grace & Danger. Favo(u)rite Sunday morning record - Desmond Dekker's Greatest Hits. Great choice of Saturday night record Shawn - one of my favo(u)rites (Phil Collins sings harmonies on Sweet Little Mystery) but Mr Martyn shines through brighter than Phil's scalp does through his thinning hair. And seeing the man live at The Jazz Cafe , London 25th October. Shawn's played there a few years ago - Great Gig (of course) But Shawn, "second side of"? get yourself a CD player FURCHRISSAKE! ____________________________________________________________________ Get free e-mail and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I have a CD player because I have to, there's just no other way to obtain most new music released today, and I do admit I don't go back to the ole vinyl as much as I should but you young guys and girls really don't know what you're missing from 45's and 33-1/3's; namely warmth, presence, and all the pops, crackles and hisses that you put there yourself. I do understand that people today just do not have the time and energy to actually get up and turn a vinyl record over, we're all just much too busy, hence e-mail and computer webs. As to Shawn Colvin; I bought her first record because I was really into Suzanne Vega at the time and recognized Shawn's name from Suzanne's credits, thought I'd give Steady On a try. As time has gone by and Suzanne has generally gotten artsier and (maybe) colder I find Shawn has far outdistanced her in my admittedly simple tastes. In fact I have to say Shawn is my favorite female performer since Joni Mitchell in the 60's. I wanted to keep this short since I've never posted anything before, but just wanted to make one suggestion for the survey I've seen people replying to; how about a category of the song you'd most like to see Shawn Colvin cover? My vote; something by Luka Bloom, maybe You Couldn't Have Come At a Better Time. Thanks for your time. Nothing worse than trying to get videos from O/S and finding out they're only available in American NTSC format... and you don't have a multi-format VCR to play them on... We have enough Europeans and Aussies represented here to make it worthwhile.... don't we? And I reckon it's a pretty good idea to first try and lobby the hell out of Sony to do something about it - you never know what the power of the people can do! And if in typical Sony fashion it don't work, then we can always do it ourselves like Andrew said... (well, those of you who actually have any Shawn videos anyway - sadly I'm not one of them...sigh). ~ Kat ~ - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. She's purty darn good. :) I had a chance to chat with her after that show and she said Shawn has been an inspiration and an encouragement to her. She apparently sent Shawn a couple demo tapes, then when her CD came out, Shawn called her up out of the blue and said "I fukn love your stuff" and asked her to play with her at Zona Rosa. It was a really cool show, (the SOS benefit) and it was Shawn solo. Ana Egge opened, and then Shawn brought her back out at the end of her set for a couple more songs.... and Shawn sang backup for her. Ana had a maniacal grin on her face the whole time, as you can imagine. What a cool thing for a new artist to be standing on stage with her idol singing backup... wow. ~~~Janel~~~ - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
