I hope, um, she, er, doesn't think, um, all Ozzie, er, blokes are like him, um... Anyways, not much news this side, I've got my tickets in my hot little paw for her two gigs in Melbourne. Apparently the first gig at the Continental Cafe has been sold out for nearly a week, but they only put 200 tickets on sale for the public (mine are #5-#8 :), the rest are freebies for the industry. My Shawn supporting CD shop worried that the place might be filled with 'Brash's (music chain) bimboes =:-O... yer know "Shawn Colvin... who's he?" types. We'll outnumber 'em I'm sure... I'm sharpening my elbows as we speak. Both gigs are standup affairs and are priced at AUD$15 (US$11). The Prince Patrick Hotel is your more traditional pub music venue... probably a better venue to kick butt! Shawn is being supported (at least at the PP), by Taswegian (er Tasmanian) singer/songwriter Monique Brumby. I recently picked up her recently released debut album 'Thylacine' (extinct Tasmanian tiger) which is starting to get some airtime here in Black Rock. Her style is very reminiscent of The Cranberries/Souxsie and the Banshees in some ways... early days of listening... a good album. After I set up my account, I realised the name would have been more internet relevant if I had called myself steve.URL. Still, I'm pretty stupid really - with my sole excuse being my taste in music. DON'T GET ANGRY EVERYONE - Here's the Shawn bit to justify the missing NSC. Considering Sony/Columbia's treatment of Shawn in The UK, I'm thinking of writing new lyrics to one of Shawn's finest and calling it "The Facts About Sony". Come to think of it Shawn wasn't treated to well over the pond with Sony initially refusing to release Sunny commercially so it couldn't make The Billboard charts. (So it wouldn't affect album sales was the excuse I heard) Still, I'm sure Sony will put up a full account of their Corporate Music Policy in the next few days in their oh-so regularly updated Shawn site. How many Sony Executives does it take to change a lightbulb? Trick question. Sony execs can't change a lightbulb. Once the old one's removed, Sony won't release a new one to replace it. ____________________________________________________________________ Get free e-mail and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I watch with interest the discussion re. a compilation Shawn singles video. I was on a Heart list last year, and several members pooled their own stuff to make a compilation tape for the list. Based on Sony's loss of interest in Shawn (at least over here in the UK), I think we should do something for ourselves. If anyone feels bad about loss of income to Shawn, copyright etc., then maybe people could make donations to a known favourite charity of Shawn's. I know legality is a difficult area for some (and in a strict sense it's a concern for all music lovers), but it often pisses me off to think of all the video footage sitting in record companies' vaults that probably won't be looked at ever again!
