I was in the pavilion section that wasn't covered. It's nice to know that the artists appreciated us sticking around. My own thoughts on the evening: Jewel was pretty unimpressive. Sheryl Crow ROCKED! Shawn IMHO is still the best songwriter of the lot. (My sister chastised me when I made this comment to her. Typical male making a competition out of it ... or something like that.) I have to agree with Paul. I keep reading about people getting backstage and hanging with Shawn. What's the move for that? I purchased the Warner Brothers AFSR tablature at Lilith and was dying to get Shawn to sign it for me. BTW, did anyone else notice all the beer bottles laying in the parking lot. It was a friggin obstacle course trying to get out after the show. I personally saw two cars with flat tires. - -- Greg Welker welkerg@uakron.edu CBA Computer Labs The University of Akron - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I purchased the Warner Brothers AFSR tablature at > Lilith and was dying to get Shawn to sign it for me. Hi, Greg and Paul, and all you Shawn fans! Marsha from Chattanooga here...I've "met" Shawn twice, (and scores of glitterati over the years). I think the key to having an audience with the artists we admire is to be "true believers" in the power and the magic that their creations provide for us. I think this "energy of true belief" is something that is exuded from the aura we project to others. When I show up to various venues, I make sure I have done my homework well-ahead, and find wonderful albums, pictures and splashy memorabilia in my own collections or at re-sale record outlets to bring to the performance. For example: When Don McLean came to Choo-Choo-town back in 1991, I dug up the 20+ year old "American Pie" sheet music I had carefully preserved. He happily signed it for me, as well as one of his pictures on a greatest hits CD. These items nicely combined and framed are quite valuable souvenirs in the Don-market...but I would never sell them, for I am a "true believer"... When folks line up near the performers' get-away vehicles, other true believers and I scoff at the mixture of pitiful items non-believers bring to have signed: 1. cocktail napkins: didn't think ahead enough to even bring a simple clean sheet of paper for your autograph? (I like to laughingly tell these folks to "get at the back of the line", since this didn't become important to them until 5 minutes before the show ended) 2. a business card? ditto the above... 3. don't even have your own Sharpie pen open and ready? non-believers expect one to magically appear or be permanently attached to their performers' digits... 4. do you think a little preparation, like arriving early to the venue might help you assess who is in charge of security and publicity? Are you assertive enough and not frightening in your appearance and dress, to approach these access people and show them your beautiful memorabilia you have that you want signed, chat with them about the star and give that person some of your charm, enthusiasm, and happiness that shows you are a True Believer? 5. concentrating your efforts at smaller towns and clubs is always more effective. Yes, these artists do play to smaller audiences than 10,000+ arenas and stadiums. (We had less than 1500 attend at the Tennessee Theater in Knoxville last Sat. for Shawn). I traveled 100 miles. That is a short distance for true-believer-travel. As I ready myself to meet up with friends for the last Lilith Fair venue in Vancouver, I will not expect to get my True Believer memorablia signed that I hand-carry across thecountry and into Canada... but I will be prepared! I "truly believe" this will bring me the desired results. Good Luck to all True Believers. I hope this helps!
