Shawn still does solo acoustic shows, in fact that is how I was introduced to the songs from AFSR. I saw her twice solo before the disc came out and maybe that is why I think the writing is stronger on it than even Steady On (still my favorite disc), because those are the versions of the songs I carry with me for the most part. In fact when I saw her in June, she had a head cold, which amazingly made her voice sound even better, it added a husky dimension on the lower register and made "The Facts About Jimmy" just incredible, among others. Shotgun is my all-time favorite, especially since it is the song that introduced me to Shawn. Great writing, both music and lyric, great production, everything. I literally heard it on the radio, drove straight to Tower Records and bought Steady On on the spot. It's a good thing CD's don't wear out like LP's, because I'd be on my tenth copy by now... My favorite version of it is on the Columbia Records Radio Hour Vol. 1 on which Mary Chapin Carpenter accompanies, it's a masterpiece. Have you heard her version of The Beatles' I'll Be Back yet? - -John =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= - - - John DeFord = "You don't have to drag me down, - JDeFord@BayNetworks.com = = I descend." -Trouble, Shawn Colvin - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Jean, I thought you had posted that Shawn would be playing at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano the 8th of September but it is not posted on Sony and the Coach House says she isn't on their schedule. I guess if people are not happy with it, there are options. There are, 1 You post, I post and others post and that makes up UNDER 50% of those subscribing. I mention it and a newbie asks me to prove myself by posting although I have been for some time. We may not always agree, but that's part of an informative, if not argumentative discussion, but nonetheless worthwhile. 2 Information provided by several people indicates their devotion to Shawn's work and similar work. I don't have a problem with other peoples likes/dislikes. It's just I'm looking forward to mail from yourself (honest), esp. Jean and Andy and others who can keep tongue firmly in cheek and discuss the topic which we all joined for. I then discover that all I have in my mailbox are discussions about other artistes. 3 These artistes are DEFINITELY talented (in some or many ways)and I'm not going into discussions about why or why not. I have been trying to make light of many things, but sometimes, people take things too seriously. I now know it's my fault as I have been advised from the UK that I have forgotten to put a :) after every "joke" I made. Maybe if I had, I would be a more accomplished WWW professional, but maybe someone should have told me that you needed a degree in Internet etiquette before you could join such an elite club. Maybe I should have realised that when you joined a SC mailing list the most important initials you have to look out for are NSC. Maybe you should check out the Newsgroup : Alt.music.talented.nsc (small group) Casey, I honestly appreciate your initiative. THANK YOU. The jeans you made are just too big for my small arse. (That's ass Jean) Jean - (Marry Me!!), Andy. I keep my promises. Talk to you soon. Sean, will let you know. May change my e- mail address. If so, will let you know, if you want to know. PS The names I have just mentioned DO NOT necessarily have the same views as me. Finally, to quote Groucho Marx I've had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn't it. I refuse to be a member of a club that would have a person like me as a member. PS Pheonix. Thank you. Needed the final impetus. May the ashes you fly from realise they are are the lucky party. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Just a warning; this message is obnoxious....i apologize in advance. I just have to let you know that in less than 24 hours, i will be seeing The Colvin-meister herself, live and in stereo... (i'll be listening with both ears) and i am so excited i can hardly stand it!!! WOO HOO! After reading DC's review of the Boston show (thanks DC!) i know that this show will be fantabulous. (hey... that's not a real word...) The last time i saw shawn at this venue, she did it solo and acoustic...i vividly remember hearing Sunny Came Home for the first time. What a treat. This was also the show where i got the chance to "speak" to her afterwards and lost my speech capabilities; i do remember something spilling out of my mouth to the effect of "hmfphf dseufl aarrrmmf fbleh lehhh." Translation: unknown. I've not yet decided whether or not to risk making an arse (hey neil... i like your word better) out of myself and perhaps retry the speech thing... most likely i will chicken out, wimp that i am... Ah, well... until tomorrow. Meanwhile, i must find a way to render myself unconscious because i am way too hyper about seeing this show.
