(No wonder I'm on digest mode!) I just want to first say, that there is an amazing comradery (sp?) on the Toad list and I hope to find the same here since Shawn's music is amazingly heartfelt. I should think that her listeners are the same way. To pick up on an existing thread... I think that her best work is and always will be Steady On. Her lyricsm is a masterpiece. I'm not saying that Fat City or AFSR aren't fabulous, but the word play on Steady On won me over and the CD has permanent residence in my stereo. On AFSR, though... I agree that it sounds least like Shawn. I don't know how a show with a full band would fare against the days when she performed by herself. It took me a few listens before I fully embraced it. Same with the newer Indigo Girls records... Shaming the Sun is not quite the same as Strange Fire... but different can be just as good. The best songs on AFSR in no particular order: Sunny Came Home If I Were Brave Witchita Skyline Nothin On Me Best songs ever: Monopoly Shotgun Down the Avalanche (talk about great writing!) Richochet in Time (talk about great guitar playing!) Don't Know Why Kill The Messenger Killing the Blues Don't You think I feel it too? (cover) Kathy's Song (cover) That's my first blurb and blather. Saw Shawn Thursday night in Portland Maine. Wow. Wish I had a better word but that pretty much sums her, Larry Klein and Steurt Smith up. They have such fun together as only 3 old friends can. Shawn played a good mixture of all her songs. She as always looked great. I think if anyone ever wants to meet Shawn the place to go is the Gap. Both times I have seen her she has talked about shopping at the gap while she was in town. So wherever you live hang out at the Gap on the day of her performance and you just might get to say hello. Wouldn't that be a rush. Duncan Sheik was an excellent opening act. Liked his stuff. I had only heard his one song on the radio. One small criticism is that a couple of his songs sort of sounded alike, but he is definelty talented. I guess I must be getting old because he seemed so young. I had a great seat. 10th row in the orchestra section. Duncan's drummer came out and was talking to someone in the row in front of me and he looked to be about 18. Shawn sang 4 songs in her encore. She played "If I were Brave" as the firrst song in her encore set. Has become a sort of personal anthem for me. Picking my ass up of the street and moving on and all that. You could tell she was coming back for an encore because they bring her keyboard out when she goes off stage and of course Shawn laughed at this and said I guess you guys knew I was coming back. Said if she ever has a lot of money she would buy herself" a big ass piano" and take it on the road with her. Got love a women with an attitude like that. Just thought I would let you folks know that Shawn is always a wonderful experience. Talk to you all again soon. Have a great day! STEADY ON! The two songs I've heard by him I really like, and I'm considering getting his CD, but would like some more input first. Thanks. - -Casey - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. If so, could someone tell me where that *is*? :) I know the name, but no one I've talked to seems to know where it is, and I can't buy the tickets until I know where it is because someone is going to have to drive me and, oh... man, is this the way I *talk*? :) Oh, well. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'd like to get the tickets asap--but if no one can help, that's okay.
