I'm just so glad to hear I'm not the only one... And the eiderdown had me going for a while too - I actually had to make the effort to check the liner notes on that one. And as for 'Set the Prairie on Fire' - well, it's one of my faves, but apart from the chorus and the 'I dreamed that we were flying' line, I just had no idea... Can I just say that I was very proud of myself for picking up on the 'waiting for Godot' line in If I Were Brave...? I say bravo to both of you for being such great mediators and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I'm sure the great and mighty Shawn herself would be proud! On a totally different note, feel free to let AGF know that if Shawn would like a tour guide to show her the sights of Sydney when she (finally!) gets here in September, I'm sure I could be available, and we have a spare room if she needs somewhere to stay... My brother met Shawn in April of 1987 when she participated in a long radio folk extravaganza hosted by New York DJ Vin Scelsa (the Easter Extravaganza). (My brother produced the first couple of They Might Be Giants records and they participated also). He came home and called me up and said, "You're gonna love Shawn Colvin." I'd also been involved with Fast Folk but I'm not sure I saw Shawn live until after my brother mentioned her (I did see Suzanne Vega, John Gorka, Christine Lavin and many more at the Speakeasy and have many early Fast Folk albums). I did run out and see her next time she came around after my brother's recommendation and I've been a fan ever since. susan Susan Krauss Krauss Research skrauss@hooked.net http://www.wenet.net/~skrauss - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted, but seriously, unless we're going to officially change the subject of this list, can we just drop this? One last note: This mailing list is named after Shawn's album-- which is named after a painting. Ironic, eh? I first heard Shawn a few years ago on her Fat City cd then her CoverGirl cd. I am ashamed to admit I did not really pay much attention to her because I heard these cds at work. It was not until a friend brought A Few Small Repairs to work just after Christmas; that I fell in love with her music. I had to see her live. Saw she was coming to Boston in February so I got a great seat, 4th row, and was blown away by her live. I was left with such a feeling of awe and just plain happiness that I knew I had experienced something truly rare. I was then hooked and went out and bought all her cds and I love them all. From Live 88 to the present. her music has evolved from a folk sound to more pop/rock but the voice and lyrics still move me unlike anyone(Pete Townshend is a close second). So glad my friend brought her to work that day. I only wish I had found her years earlier. She is always on at my house. I call it a Shawnathon when I just put the cd player on shuffle and load her cds in. Can'nt wait till Thursday. She is coming to Portland Maine. A five hour drive but it is worth it. I'll let you all know about the show. Till then have a great day folks!
