Praps at Blockbuster... but not at Basement Discs as I might have thought... despite the fact that Basement have probably supported and sold more copies of Shawn's stuff than all of the other mainstream CD shops combined... that's music bizzness I guess. Hey everybody-- Went to a Musicland/Sam Goody's yesterday (who, incidentally usually carries Shawn's Songbooks), and i noticed that all of her CD's we increased in price by either a dollar or two! It was actually kind of tacky because you could still see the old price tag covered only by once swipe of a black magic marker... And according to the Billboard Hot 100, Shawn is clinging ever so tightly to that number 10 position...it's down a couple of notches from 8 previously. But! The VH1 Route 97 Top 10 Countdown has the Sunny Came Home video listed at NUMBER 2!! Held back only by Meridith Brooks. Fingers Crossed.... it would something to see if shawn hit No. 1! By the way, for all the Newbies, AGF management did announce last month that Shawn's next single will indeed be "You and the Mona Lisa." It is scheduled for release in late July/early August, depending on how the popularity of Sunny holds. I am curious to see how this video will turn out... I'm hoping it will show shawn just goofing off; maybe playing with her niece or something... Something fun, and not too abstract. I'm thinking..... something like Madonna's Cherish Video; you know... playing with the mermaids and the kid? okay, well... that is why i am not a video producer, eh? ~jean :) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Thought i would tell you what i know.. although i don't know much: A while back, an HBO movie, Edie & Penn, starring Stockard Channing, and (oh, man i just forgot her name; rats.).... ANYWAYS, Shawn did indeed score the soundtrack for that movie, and it features the song "Fall of Rome." I heard Shawn's cover of Jane Siberry's song, "Sail Across the Water" during the opening credits of *another* HBO Production, and that was a movie starring Harvey Kietel (<---i'm positive that is misspelled) and cameron diaz... sorry, don't know the title. (Told ya' i didn't know much...) Check out Sean Petrie's webpage and you can probably find the answer there! I had heard at one point that the Edie & Penn soundtrack would be available, but don't think that either of them actually are. Still hopin' though. I read somewhere that "Fall of Rome" may be released on shawn's next album. hope that helps. ~jean :) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Further, I will not belong to a list in which someone describes behavior (ad nausium) that I basically disapprove of and not be allowed to say so. My personal ethic is that if someone describes behavior to me and I disapprove and don't say anything, than that is communicating tacit approval of the behavior. I just find this man's behavior to be a little odd. Specifically, he brings large objects to concerts and throws them at the entertainer. Then he notices with some detail, exactly the behavior of the artist as to whether they are pleased at this thing being thown at them and what they do with it. Then he comes on the internet and writes stories where he conveys the details of all this. Then -- presumably at the encouragement of some of you, such encouragement he seems pleased with -- he writes more stories. Odd to me. But if I were the artist in question I would find this behavior to be scary. Therefore, I do not think it is right for all one hundred and sum of us to listen to his stories. If someone doesn't stand up and say that this behavior bothers them, then this person will say to themselves "well, it is okay to throw things at the entertainers because one hundred and sum people read about me doing it and no one said it was the wrong thing to do. In fact, some of them wrote me and said they wanted more stories." I find this to be a troubling circumstance. I'm not saying his behavior is wrong, I'm saying it could be construed as scary to the artist involved. I'm saying that the next time he could take things farther, either out of our tacit approval or to make for a better story next time. When I go to a concert, I go to be entertained by the artist. I don't expect to "meet" the artist or have them acknowledge me in any other way than to smile (whatever) when I applaud. This need of some people to -- in some way - -- "get closer" to the artist needs to be monitored by the rest of us and when we see this behavior to START getting out of hand, we need to GENTLY coax them to not loose their sense of perspective. If I'm at a concert and someone is throwing a picture at the artist and is hoping the artist will pick up the picture and take my good and valuable time to admire and comment on the painting, then I'm being robbed of the song that the artist would otherwise be singing. mar - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. You want to just plan to email that day and tell what we're wearing so we'll recognize each other? I can be there around 6:30, no problem. I do, however, need directions to Ziggy's. I think I've only actually driven there once, and even then I was following somebody. I always just tagged along and didn't have to drive (and could drink ;-). Could you please provide me with those? Like, "You Were Meant For Me", it's been re-recorded and re-mixed from the album version. On the whole I like the new radio version a lot. Jewel's voice retains it's folk sound while still being "pop" enough to be acceptable to the top-40 radio stations that really made her as famous as she is. Also added are some subtle new drums and percussion and some nice new backing vocals. Overall, I think it's a successful transition from studio to radio and I look forward to Jewel's next album as I hear more and more of her "matured" sound versus the way her voice sounded three years ago when 'Pieces of You' was recorded.
