[Max Freund > Yeah... that is always a bummer. Leno & Letterman rarely interview their music acts. Rosie O'Donnell usually does. It would be nice if people could get a taste of shawn's sense of humor in an interview. ~jean PS: Thanx for the P. Westerburg info... i think perhaps i have seen that song done in her solo show last year. was it a really depressing song? I thought she was going to breakdown into tears when she sang that song! ========================================================= This has been a post from Small Repairs. What do you think? I think AFSR is a great album, though I like "Steady On" the best. Even though "Steady On" and "Fat City" are quite different, they sound like the good old Shawn Colvin. However AFSR may be too pop oriented for the old timers. AFSR certainly is a good starting poin for new listeners. But afterwards "Steady On" is not something people can easily get into. > Another thing. What do you all think about "Mona Lisa" being the next >single? I think it's a safe choice, although I would've thought she would be >more daring and release "New Thing Now," "Jimmy," or maybe even "Suicide >Alley." > >Marisa. I agree! They may be too cautious in their choice, for a good reason, I guess. A lot is riding on the next single. The difference can be a gold album or a multi-platinum album for AFSR. "Mona Lisa" is a good song and I like it as much as many of the other songs on the album. The problem is that "Mona Lisa" sounds like another top 40 song and may be overshawdowed by "Sunny." These days anything goes on radio. Why not release something that people will more likely to take notice? "Trouble" would be my first pick. It is one of the best written songs on the album and is very memorable. The song may initially sound too soft for radio, but the momentum generated by "Sunny" will jump start the song. I would also consider "Suicide Alley," another incredible song that should hit radio. My only concern is that some radio program directors probably think it's country music. I would even consider rerelease "Get Out of This House." I know it didn't make a dent on radio when it came. But that was before she got any exposure. Since they have already decided on "Mona Lisa." I hope I am wrong and the song will expose Shawn to many more listeners with good taste. BTW, if you have not visited my Shawn Colvin page, feel free to drop by. Thanks Jean! It's good to know that the concert exists, and I wasn't having an auditory hallucination. (It would be especially dismaying not to be able to trust my senses that night, because the Lyle Lovett concert was great!) I hate to part with the pound of flesh that Ticketmaster makes you surrender, so here's an offer to NY-area folks: if you can get me a line on a ticket (or better yet, two), I'll give you a ride from the City out to Plainview. Any takers reply to me directly. - --Max At 12:50 am -0400 7/18/97, BigHAIR844@aol.com wrote: >I sifted through the information that i received from AGF Management and they >indeed listed a show for July 22 in Plainview, NY at The Vanderbilt. I don't know if that's a standard thing but it seems to me that he should treat his performers like his usual guests! I was so frustrated when they did ten minutes worth of commercials before she came on and then he didn't even talk with her. Musicians are people too! Just a thought.... >> I was *really* disappointed. Especially since Dave spent at least 15 minutes total on the completely unfunny Biff-not-quite-frying-an-egg-on-the-sidewalk spots. That could have been valuable Shawn interview time! But Shawn may not have seen it that way; you never know what the musicians are thinking... Mary Chapin Carpenter said recently (I think it was on Tom Snyder) that she always hoped that she would not have to talk after her performances on the late-night talk shows, because so many times she'd seen people do a great performance and then totally "undo" all the good they had done with the music by opening their big mouths with the host. I personally would almost rather just see Shawn interviewed, since I can hear "Sunny" any time I want by popping AFSR in the CD player.
