[Angst Girl Subject: [s-r] UK singles + Glastonbury When the UK single version of Sunny comes out we will, in all probablity, get two CD singles which is what Sony did with Get Out... when it was released here. (Jean will know this only too well because I bought her copies of each and was going to mail them but I moved in the interim and I've got this awful feeling that they're packed up in a box back in London. Soon jean, soon) Anyway, Glastonbury. As anyone who lives in the UK will have heard, it was a complete mud bath but no worse for that, put best by Ms Colvin :'People talked about the mud but about so much more than the mud.' Though it sounds from the gig at Shepherd's Bush the night before that she wasn't looking forward to it. As usual the three-four days were totally great with some of the best live music I've heard all year. Shawn played on Saturday afternoon in the acoustic tent and was great, with the arrangements totally stripped down to just her and a guitar in a 50 minute set. The version of Trouble was especially great with a really fast, frenetic backing which suited the song brilliantly and made it even more chilling than either the album version or any other live version I've heard. Maybe the strain of touring is getting to her 'cos she introduced get Out Of This House by saying 'Uh it's about telling someone to get out of the house'. The crowd were a little drunk but very enthusiastic. A full set list will follow but she started with a cover I've never heard her do which was a Paul Westerburg song called (I think) 'Even here'. As usual Polaroids was great especially when she went off into her usual stream-of-consciousness medley of songs at the end. Is this rehearsed or for real? Has anyone heard her do the same thing twice at the end of Polaroids? Anyway my personal favourites (musically anyway) from Glasto '97 were: Shawn, Ani DiFranco, Radiohead, Billy Bragg (as ever), Dubstar (surprisingly bril live), Beck, Sheryl Crow (dressed really bizarrely), Supergrass, Nanci Griffith, Stereolab, Kula Shaker (no really). Hope everyone's well and here's my list << survey in and send it to the list: 1) city: Newcastle-upon-Tyne but originally Welsh 2) state/country UK 3) Age 34 4) Gender male 5) occupation health journalist 6) number of times you've seen shawn live 3 7) favorite song Climb On 8) additional comments In reference to earlier little spat: I think we're allowed to say we like the work of more than one person without getting slagged off 9) name (optional) >> Adam/Ad/Addy (if you know me really well) - -- Adam Legge adaml@dircon.co.uk ========================================================= This has been a post from Small Repairs. I have to admit and report that I JUST heard Jane Siberry for the first time on KGSR in Austin. If the DJ hadn't announced the artist before playing the song I would have SWORN it was Shawn!! The song was "Calling all Angels," a duet I believe, with k.d. lang. Incredible. The first half of it sounded SO Shawn-like that my friend and I just sat here listening with our chins on the floor in disbelief. Well, I certainly enjoyed that first taste of Jane's music, and I can see why Shawn would be impressed and affected by it. I'm looking forward to getting to know her better myself! ~~~Janel~~~ ========================================================= This has been a post from Small Repairs.
