Just purchased the soundtrack this weekend...Yes, Ani does the song "Wishin' & Hopin'" which was indeed the song from the opening credits. Chapin does a cover of "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" which is okay, but i guess i'm just used to hearing the original. Her version is slower. This soundtrack has lots of Hal David and Burt Bacharach tunes, so if you like them, (That's you, Neil !!!!) you'll enjoy it. There is a cool song by amanda marshall (who also sang Birmingham) which played over the closing credits. If you liked the movie, you should get this. It's very upbeat and happy. ~jean ========================================================= This has been a post from Small Repairs. Thanks for the report on your Shawn Adventures! We'll be sure to return the favor. (though i know how tough doing the set list can be... you enjoy the tunes so much that you forget that you are writing them down!) Keep us posted on the BBC broadcasts, 'kay? ~jean bH PS: Neil-- it's okay that you changed your mind on your favo(u)rite tune... i'm surprised more people haven't blasted me for forcing you to choose!! :) ========================================================= This has been a post from Small Repairs. Yes, Craig has it): the line "As you're dragging your red rowing >boat" (_The Walking_ has a photo of a rowboat on the cover). > >But nothing else, beside the repetition of Jane's name, of course, stood >out (well, maybe the dwelling on the aspects (and beauty) of nature, >which really puts me in mind of Jane's "Bound by the Beauty"). > >So I had a quick poke on the web, and turned up just what you're looking >for, in Shawn's own words. Note that the show she mentions was at the >Bottom Line, the club in NYC where I've gone 3 or 4 times (once with >Craig) to see Happy... > >Damn but I'm good at turning this stuff up. ;-) > >You never did tell me the ticket prices... > >jeffy >---------- > >What is the background of "Kill The Messenger"? > > It's about Jane Siberry from Toronto. I went to see a concert of >hers at The Bottom Line and it was one of the best shows that I've ever >seen. She's a great woman and performer--a bit of a Peter Pan and a bit >of a seductress and has the great ability to combine whimsy and >compassion. She's quirky but accessible. And her show was theatrical in >a very accessible, warm, wonderful way. I walked out of that show going, >"Well, I should just hang it up." And that's really great for an artist >to feel (laughs), it really is--it pushes you. > > On her record called "The Walking" she thanked her songs for being >there. You know, for just always being there. And "Kill The Messenger" >is kind of about writer's block, and it's a sibling of "The Story." It's >about feeling pulled down and used by people. It's just somewhat of a >bitter song. And somewhat of a plaintive song about wanting to feel the >wonderful feelings of clarity and forgiveness when you're at the best of >your human nature instead of your worst, you know. Your worst being full >of envy or hatred or greed or self pity. And I used her much like I did >my sister in "The Story" to just sort of be a character to appeal to and >in this case one that could sort of understand my plight and maybe >harness the muse more easily than I. > ========================================================= This has been a post from Small Repairs. I am not a Shawn fan and therefore don't really belong here. I just bought her CD called A Few Small Repairs. Although I like Sunny Came Home, I don't like the rest of the CD. My mistake. I thought she was going to be a lot like Mary-Chapin Carpenter. I like Mary-Chapin a lot. No offense. I'm just signing off and anyone who reads this can email me privately. ========================================================= This has been a post from Small Repairs.
