I'm going to Glasgow and London to see Shawn in the next week or two. But getting tickets for London, Shepherd's Bush Empire has been a pain. The day the gig was announced in the press (and for a couple after), the credit card hotline advertised did not even know of the gig. Shawn's PR people said they'd look into it when I phoned them. I decided, despite my feelings about Ticketmaster, to use them to get tickets. Up until last Saturday,(2 weeks before gig) Ticketmaster were not selling tickets for London. A friend has managed to get me tickets, but I'm concerned that this problem may have reduced the size of Shawn's audience on Friday. The Empire normally has its tickets sold by Ticketmaster. Has there been a falling out between the promoter/Shawn/management and Ticketmaster? Last gig at the Empire was all seated. I thought it removed a little bit of atmosphere, but I was stuck up on the 2nd balcony. There was a bit of echo. Still, it was good to see Shawn filling up a larger venue, although I don't think anything will compare to the smaller, more intimate gigs she used to play at The Mean Fiddler, Jazz Cafe, Royalty, King Tuts etc. etc. Success means larger venues, but,for any long time fan of Shawn's, it's a slightly bittersweet feeling. (Sorry not as good with words as Shawn). By the way, does anyone know the video release date in the UK of Grace of my Heart? ========================================================= This has been a post from Small Repairs. It seems we are all in agreement on how amazing Shawn is live. I think it would be great if there was a video released of one of her live performances or even a collection of her music videos. I was at an Alanis Morissette concert in New Orleans that was being taped, and I see that she now has a live video due to be released on July 1st. If not, I'll be outside talking to the touts (scalpers) on my own, as my ex-friend won't dare to show up. Then up to Scotland for Monday's gig in Glasgow. Then back to London for Burt Bacharach's concert on Tuesday - Yes Burt Bacharach! - Don't knock this side of my taste in music, after all, Shawn did sing a duet with Tony Bennett. Then to The Mean Fiddler on Thursday to see the excellent Carlene Carter. After all that I plan to stay in, save money and try and pay off my ever mounting debts - until Shawn agrees to bring her tour with John Leventhal and Steuart Smith over to the UK. I envy you all in The US who will have the opportunity to see all 3 on the same stage together. It is neat to hear that shawn gets played on country stations too! I think that is proof positive that she has the ability to reach a wide audience. Ironically, that may have been part of her struggle to get played on the radio, simply because they didn't know where to put her; but i think it will work to her advantage in the long run. (Does your record store put her in the Rock/Pop or the Alternative section?) So now we have a group of long-time fans saying, "Finally!" regarding shawn's popularity explosion; and the new fans saying, "Where did she come from? She's good!" That can only mean good things for shawn's longevity. No One-Hit Wonder here, folks! Here in the thriving no-stoplight town of Patrick Springs, her music fits in perfectly with the country scene. Even the most Die-Hard country fans that i know like her style. That allows me, Jean--The Selfish Music Fiend, to hog the store radio and play lots and lots of shawn's music. The B-side appears as a "bonus" track on the European version of AFSR. **And those lucky Brits get another treat... (hey guys...i'm getting jealous!) The UK single of Sunny comes out in mid July. As with Get Out Of This House, there will be 2 configurations, each having 3 B-sides. All 6 B-sides are live recordings from the Nashville Show on the recently concluded tour. One will have Tenessee, Ricochet In Time, and Shotgun Down the Avalanche; the other will have The Facts About Jimmy, Get Out Of This House, and You & The Mona Lisa.
