I think Richard the songwriter is a manifestation of God on earth. I don't believe in God, but I do believe in Richard. Love his music. I don't love every song equally, some I'll skip over just because I'm impatient to get to the ones I really love. And speaking of love, I'm absolutely smitten by the new album. However. However. We all know that the gods are fallible. Richard, despite producing an album that is probably my favorite so far, has also managed to write the song I hate more than any other song I've heard. I was hopeful that he had discarded it when he stopped performing it in concert, but no such luck: "Abbie." I loathe it even more than I loathe Anka's "Having My Baby." I truly L-O-A-T-H-E it. This doesn't mean D-I-V-O-R-C-E, but it does mean there's this...thing...in the middle of the album to which I must give wide berth. But, gosh, every other song either makes me smile or pins me with awe at how *%$#@! smart the man is (except about dogs grumble grumble). From his use of language and imagery, to his pragmatic compassion, he is the best. Top favorites in no particular order: Atlas Choking, Deer on the Parkway, All Wide Open, Satellites, and Careless. I still prefer the original lyrics for Your Guitar, but it remains a sweet and respectful song. All the other songs I haven't mentioned by name are genuinely pleasurable, be it for humor or for beauty. I too fled Facebook, but because I had joined specifically to help with southern dog rescue. After two years of death rolling across my computer screen, paired with my poor boundaries, I had to get off. It's funny that as I let "friends" (more like colleagues in online rescue) know I was abandoning ship, they all assumed it was because of people's bad online behavior. It wasn't. Mostly people are very nice, and it's easy to block rude people. It's impossible to ignore the faces of hundreds of unwanted dogs who were going to die by the cruel methods used by impoverished parishes, counties and towns each week. Facebook itself is a good enough reason to drop off so I get that, but I feel like complaining about the lateness of his CD is an homage to the artist in a way. If you didn't care for his:her music, you would care if new material surfaced or not. On Tue, Sep 6, 2016 at 12:08 wrote: > Thank you, Claire, this is wonderful.
