If it does the same for mine, I'm at howie @ pobox . com (remove extra spaces - sorry, old habit!) FWIW, I read all of Vanessa's email, and enjoyed it. Reading ahead (new habit), I agree that well-written posts are always welcome. If I'm pressed for time, I have the choice to save for later, skim, or simply delete. It's my time to allocate. While AYHN is no doubt a "gateway" song into Shindell fandom, or it used to be, I don't understand why it is a non negotiable on his set list. If you think about it, there are probably only a handful of new fans just waiting for that song, while most of the room has heard it early and often. And in all truthfulness the album version is better because when I've heard him do it live, he almost always rushes it and it loses it's spark. For me, the best live show is at least a 50/50 combo of the new and old. I saw David Bowie back in 1990 on his "Farewell to the Hits" tour, and he just did his greatest hits, but you knew that when you bought the ticket. (It was also awesome.) It sounds like the Lucy/Richard duets were the best Shindell moments of the night. ...Carol ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Oct 2013 16:23:47 -0500 From: Dave Hoppenrath Subject: Re: [RS] A plea for show reports :) Let's hear it. Sorry! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Oct 2013 14:00:14 -0400 From: Vanessa Wills Subject: [RS] A plea for show reports :) Dear all, Richard is on tour (yay!) but I, like probably many on this list, will not be able to catch any of his autumn shows (boo). So I beg of you: if you attend one of his concerts, please share your experience with those of us who are less fortunate. It doesn't matter whether you have just a few impressionistic sentences to share, or a whole tome to impart. It does not matter whether you stand ready to give us the whole setlist, in order, with the keys, lyrics variations where applicable, and the detail that Richard played Fishing on a 1965 Danelectro Convertible and Reunion Hill on his 2011 Martin, or whether you only remember one or two songs and maybe half a verse from something new he premiered. There are those of us who are very eager to read your remembrances and reflections on the show(s) you saw, and who will be very grateful to you for letting us experience these shows vicariously. If you put "show report" in the subject line of your e-mail, then those of us who are hungry for them will be able to spot them all the more easily, and those who wish to remain uninformed about what's happening in Richard's shows will avoid them all the more readily. Simple. But for the love of all that is holy, please do not refrain from writing show reports because you think no one wants to hear them. Many of us (I'd venture, most of us) really, really love reading them. I'm already breaking out in hives because it's nearly 2pm on Sunday and I have heard NOTHING about Richard's show in Woodstock at 8pm on Saturday. (I mean... REALLY?!) (Just kidding.) (Sort of.) (Actually, no... if you were there, please tell me everything ASAP, kthx!) Below, I'm reposting a few examples of show reports in case you want to write one and aren't sure how to start. This is a great opportunity for any of you lurkers out there who might be attending one of Richard's shows this fall, and would be willing to post once or twice about what you saw and heard. :) Yours in song, Vanessa - ----- In case you've thought about writing show reports but have no idea what to put in there, I've pulled a few examples from the archives. They can be short, sweet, and to the point, essentially an annotated setlist, like this one: http://www.smoe.org/lists/shindell-list/v02.n013 It could have more of your own personal experience of getting to the show, how well you liked it, and what your reflections were, like this one at the end of Digest vol. 2, no. 33: http://www.smoe.org/lists/shindell-list/v02.n033 And it could be longer with lots of great detail, like this one Chris F. did back in 2006 that got a lot of positive comment on the list: http://www.smoe.org/lists/shindell-list/v08.n174 Now's as good a time to start as any, so if you were at the Woodstock showon Saturday night, consider telling us about it. :) ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V12 #494 ************************************
