Pete, your post inspired me to look up the google maps directions from Louisville, KY to the Abbey of Gethsemani and one does indeed travel along Bardstown Road, just as described in the song. How very obliging of whoever named these streets! I've wondered occasionally whether the "you" in "Gethsemani Goodbye" is imagined as the same "you" in "Careless", since the same theme of (poorly realized) friendship appears in both songs. Both songs are also essentially long ways of saying, "Hey, sorry I was such a d***." But the similarities may well just be superficial. There is something about the chord progression on this song that just perfectly expresses wistfulness and longing. And as I've noted before, the bridge serves as definitive proof that Richard could even make google maps directions sound good. ;) On Tue, May 14, 2013 at 11:18 PM, Pete Jameson wrote: > How about discussing "Gethsemani Goodbye" this week? ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V12 #445 ************************************
