And he IS the Courier, bringing us all those stories. And it's fun to play in DADGAD. If "Wisteria" happens to face it in the finals, it'll be almost impossible for me to decide, but against any other RS song, it's a no-brainier. Yes, by a considerable margin. I like Larry Campbell's violin on the SP version, but Richard's vocals on live version are more compelling. Of the ones picked, Courier Transit But I'd like to pit in a couple of late votes for "There Goes Mavis", a song with so many layers of meaning, and "Fishing", a masterful take on two very different characters. I'm also unashamedly in love with "Fennario". Can't I just love them all? Back to lurkdom for a bit. Courier vs. Reunion Hill 2. Wisteria vs. Transit I took RG's advice to listen to the songs. To be fair, I listened to the studio versions of all the songs and tried to forget the live versions. This was to the detriment of Reunion Hill, as I feel the version on "Courier" is far far better than the studio version. The choice was a close call to begin with, and ordinarily I cant resist a Civil War widow, but I had to go with the guardian of the word on this. As for the other choice---far easier for me, as I cant believe Transit made it this far. I think this may have been discussed before, but it still bothers me in Transit that somewhere near Paterson the traffic slows, but then they all end up about 60 miles away at the Delaware Water Gap. I know the song asks the question about a vortex, but I found that very unsatisfying. I know there's artistic license etc, but asking the question in the song kind of irks me, not least because I cant get an answer from the rest of the song. My limitation, I am the first to admit, but where I found Wisteria about a potentially mundane subject--a climbing vine--the treatment is transcendent. Transit, to me never reaches that same transcendence, despite Sister Maria, Softly and Tenderly, and the light of forgiveness. I see a parallel between the angry old sun waiting for the well insured horde and the light of forgiveness on the prisoners, but I find that unsatisfying too. My choices then 1. Courier (over Reunion Hill) 2. Wisteria (over Transit) John McD. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Mar 2013 12:23:09 -0800 From: Nancy Scott Subject: Re: [RS] Final Four ok, here goes: Two things: one, I'm voting for Wisteria because I love the song. I'm actually not sure I love it more than Transit, but I think Transit will win the round. Either way, I'm good. Second, re: Courier vs. Reunion Hill. After they get by her, they speed up and wind off going into a vortex. Makes sense to me, though Richard should have had Rod Serling come out at the end. I had immediate visceral choices, but I put all the different versions of all four on an iTunes playlist, put it on repeat, and listened while I was working on a knitting project. Just listened and listened, and immersed myself in Shindellness. And ended up in the same place, though as RG also said, flipping a coin would be fine at this juncture. 1. Reunion Hill 2.
