So except for the chance that a powerhouse would have met a powerhouse in early rounds, which we were pretty lucky to avoid (or if I hadn't done First Round byes), I'm not sure things would have been wildly different. It's not like an undeserving underdog is here in the Elite Eight, and most of the others that some of us think belong here ("Che," "Last Fare," etc.) put up valiant fights through last round. As some have indicated with their comments, there's going to be no undeserving winner here, although at the end of the day it's really nothing more than a popularity contest, more of a fun exercise than a true "What's Richard's best song?" test, because that's just a matter of what you like. It seems to me that in some respects the tournament is getting easier, as witnessed by the fact that most pairings in the Sweet Sixteen round were blowouts, and I've heard much less agonizing than in earlier rounds. And frankly, once of my TOUGHEST choices was way back in the first round, "State of the Union" vs. "One Man's Arkansas," which weren't even from Richard's early period. Hi all, I missed the last couple of votes due to being unable to dig my way out of mounds of email and work but I am re-energized after seeing RS on Sunday and getting to meet Mike and Linda and their friend Jeff. Here goes; 1. May -- I just like the song better 2. Reunion Hill -- love both songs but Reunion Hill edges out NBW 3. Mary Magdalene -- Without knowing the backstory on LFOD, I don't think it would pack the punch that it does and that's why MM wins IMO 4. Wisteria - this song brings me to tears everytime. State of the Union just doesn't do anything for me. 5. Fishing -- The live Courier version is THE WAY this song should be sung. 6. Transit -- with all the mystery and symbolism, it takes the cake. 7. Courier -- love this song. Period 8. Sparrow's Point - - This was THE hardest paring so far. I love both but the poetry of Sparrows Point is without equal. Some of my favorite RS lines come from this song. Thanks Ron, for doing this, I am learning A LOT about RS, and the backstories and concert tales are most enlightening.
